README

PoisonGuns

Tired of disabling the least skillful weapon class in the game? Swaps every snake with poison. Each poison weapon has roughly the same stats as the original gun. But instead of a snake its just a slower and slightly bigger green projectile that damages over time.

Snakes that maps spawn on their own are left alone. Only changes guns.

The weapons

Weapon What it does now
Poison Gun Fires a slow green poison bullet. Small hit, then damage over time.
Poison Minigun The same bullet at minigun speed, with a bit more recoil than before.
Poison Shotgun Three poison pellets at the original angles, plus a little random spread like the other shotguns.
Poison Launcher A slower copy of the RPG rocket with a green trail. Big poison boom.
Flying Poison (idk what else to call it lmao) A slow poison orb that weakly homes towards players and explodes on contact. Leaves a green comet tail so you can see it curve.
Poison Grenade Faster than normal launcher, explodes into a cloud of poison.

Config

  • Projectiles: speed and size of each one.
  • Damage: instant damage and poison damage, as multiples of a normal pistol bullet.
  • Blasts: blast radius, and whether your own blasts hit you.
  • Poison: duration, tick rate and stacking cap.
  • Seeker: homing strength and range.
  • Weapon tweaks: minigun recoil, shotgun spread, and whether the launcher and seeker use RPG rarity.
  • Looks: the poison color.
  • Switches: separate on/off toggles for the weapon swap and the menu rename.

Compatibility

Local play only. In online matches the mod switches itself off. (The "Poison" names in the weapon menu stay, since they're only visual.)

Weapon Framework: works with it. Its weapons screen shows the Poison names (the Snake category becomes POISON), and the Poison Launcher and Flying Poison start from the RPG's odds there. Snake weapons added by other mods stay snakes.

Credits

In case you can't tell, this mod was made with Claude Opus 5.5. Claude wrote the code, worked out how the snake weapons are built by reading the game's files, and packaged it for Thunderstore. I basically just told it what to do and it works pretty good lol. If you have an idea for a mod you should check it out!!!!

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.1.2

  • With Menu Overhaul (and no Weapon Framework): the Poison Minigun and Flying Poison now show their close-up and stats on the WEAPONS screen, and it no longer says they never drop (the rename had hidden them from it). They always spawned normally.
  • Without Weapon Framework, switching ReplaceSnakeGuns or RenameSnakeToPoison in a config editor now renames the game's own weapon menu right away too, instead of after the next lobby load.

1.1.1

  • Restores the original README, description and icon (1.1.0 went up with the wrong ones). No gameplay changes.

1.1.0

  • Works with Weapon Framework: the "Poison" names show in its weapons screen (the Snake category becomes POISON), and the Poison Launcher and Flying Poison start from the RPG's spawn odds there, so Spawn Rate Changer's sliders show the real numbers.
  • Flying Poison leaves a comet tail as wide as its ball, so you can see the curve it flies.
  • Only the game's own snake weapons turn into poison; snake weapons added by other mods (like Arsenal's Snake Nest) are left alone.
  • Poison blasts now look bigger or smaller to match their blast radius (they all used to look the same size).
  • Turning ReplaceSnakeGuns on or off in a config editor now takes effect right away, spawn odds included.
  • With ReplaceSnakeGuns off, the menus say "Snake" again.

1.0.0

  • First release.
  • Poison versions of the Snake Gun, Snake Minigun, Snake Shotgun, Snake Launcher, Flying Snake and Snake Grenade.
  • Switches itself off in online matches
  • "Snake" renamed to "Poison" in the weapon menu and level editor.
