VRisingDLSS

Adds NVIDIA DLSS (including the DLSS 4.5 models) and AMD FSR upscaling and anti-aliasing, with an in-game options section. DLSS needs an RTX card; FSR works on any card.

README

VRisingDLSS

Adds NVIDIA DLSS (including the DLSS 4.5 models) and AMD FSR upscaling and anti-aliasing to V Rising.

V Rising ships with HDRP's DLSS render path compiled in but without an upscaler behind it. This mod switches that path on and connects it to DLSS or FSR through a small native bridge, so the upscaler runs where the engine intended it to: with the game's own depth, motion vectors and camera jitter.

This is an unofficial mod. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NVIDIA, AMD or Stunlock Studios.

Features

  • DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards, with model selection: K (DLSS 4), L and M (DLSS 4.5), or Auto.
  • FSR on every graphics card, through AMD's FSR SDK 2.3. The SDK picks the newest FSR version the card and driver support and falls back to FSR 3.1 otherwise.
  • Native-resolution anti-aliasing (DLAA / FSR Native AA) and the upscaling modes Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance.
  • In-game options - a "DLSS / FSR (mod)" section at the bottom of Options -> Graphics.
  • Diagnostic overlay - active upscaler, resolutions, upscaler GPU time and a live log.

Requirements

  • The game running on Direct3D 11 (the default).
  • BepInExPack V Rising.
  • For DLSS: an NVIDIA GeForce RTX card with a current driver.
  • For FSR: a graphics card and driver with Direct3D 12 support, on Windows 10 or newer.

The mod is client-side only.

Installation

Mod manager: install through r2modman or the Thunderstore app; the BepInEx dependency is pulled in automatically.

Manual:

  1. Install BepInExPack V Rising and start the game once.
  2. Copy all .dll files from this package into BepInEx/plugins/VRisingDLSS/.

Usage

Open Options -> Graphics and scroll to the DLSS / FSR (mod) section:

Option What it does
DLSS / FSR Turns the mod's upscaling on or off. While it is on, the game's Anti-Aliasing and FSR options have no effect.
Upscaler Auto, DLSS or FSR. Auto uses DLSS on NVIDIA RTX cards and FSR on everything else.
Upscaling Mode DLAA / Native AA, Quality, Balanced, Performance or Ultra Performance.
DLSS Model Auto, Default, J, K, L or M. Only applies to DLSS.
Upscaling Overlay Shows the diagnostic overlay.

Hotkeys (all rebindable in the config file):

Key Action
F10 Toggle upscaling
F9 Next mode
F8 Toggle overlay
Insert Next upscaler (overlay visible)
F5 Next DLSS model (overlay visible)
F6 Next injection point (overlay visible)

What does it cost?

Measured upscaler GPU time at 3440x1440 output on an RTX 5080:

Mode DLSS K DLSS M DLSS L FSR 3.1
DLAA / Native AA 1.3 ms 2.9 ms 3.9 ms 1.1 ms
Quality 1.2 ms 2.1 ms - 0.8 ms
Performance 1.2 ms 1.4 ms - 0.7 ms
Ultra Performance - - 1.1 ms 0.6 ms

The DLSS model Auto setting uses K for DLAA, M for Quality / Balanced / Performance and L for Ultra Performance, because the DLSS 4.5 models (L, M) are much heavier at native resolution.

V Rising is a light game, so on a fast card upscaling mainly improves image quality rather than frame rate. The overlay shows the upscaler GPU time for your own setup.

About FSR

The game renders with Direct3D 11, while AMD's FSR SDK only runs on Direct3D 12. The mod therefore runs FSR on a second, helper Direct3D 12 device and passes the images across. This needs no setup, but it is the reason FSR requires Direct3D 12 support even though the game itself does not.

Which FSR version runs is decided by AMD's SDK and shown on the overlay (for example FSR 3.1.5).

Configuration

Settings live in BepInEx/config/kpajak.vrising.dlss.cfg. Besides the options above:

  • FsrSharpness - strength of FSR's extra sharpening pass, 0 to 1 (default 0, off).
  • InjectionPoint - where the upscaler runs in post-processing. The default AfterDepthOfField is recommended. BeforePost causes rectangular dark patches in the upscaling modes.
  • AutoExposure - lets the upscaler estimate exposure itself (default on).
  • UseMipBias - sharper texture sampling when rendering below output resolution (default on).

Troubleshooting

  • Upscaling turns itself off - the mod falls back to the game's own anti-aliasing when an upscaler cannot start. With Upscaler = Auto, a card without working DLSS is switched to FSR automatically. Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log and BepInEx/VRisingDLSS.native.log; an outdated GPU driver is the usual cause.
  • Lower frame rate with DLAA - switch the DLSS model to K, or leave it on Auto.
  • Artifacts - turn on the overlay (F8) and check the injection point; then compare with upscaling off (F10).
  • After a game update - the mod hooks engine internals and may need an update. If the options section cannot be added, the mod keeps working through the hotkeys.

Tested with V Rising 1.1.13 on an RTX 5080 at 3440x1440 (DLSS and FSR 3.1). FSR has not been tested on AMD or Intel cards yet - reports are welcome. Frame Generation is not supported.
