A glider you equip, and three springboards you build that throw you into the sky, from where you glide wherever you look.

Required on the server and on every client, same major.minor version: the mod adds an item, three build pieces and four status effects.
Every in-game text follows your game language: English, or French when your game is in French.
The glider
A utility item (accessory slot, like the strength belt), crafted at the workbench.

| Input | Effect |
|---|---|
| Jump, while in the air | Opens or closes the sail (at least 3 m above the ground) |
| Look | The sail turns towards where the camera looks |
| Forward | Dive: you plunge and gain speed, which you keep for a while |
| Backward | Pull up: the extra speed turns back into height, you climb; without extra speed, brake |
Speed is earned and kept. Diving, you sink at 17.5 m/s and the height lost beyond the normal sink turns into speed: from 25 to about 48 m/s in 8 s with springboard momentum, up to 50 m/s at most (35 without momentum, 25 with the makeshift sail). Release the key and the speed is kept, easing back to cruising speed: about a third of the extra is left after 6 s. Pulling up first stops the descent (half a second from a dive), then the extra speed pays for the height gained and for the climbing speed (15 m/s at most, never above the maximum altitude); back at cruising speed, it brakes. Each conversion only returns 80 %, and a descending speed is never credited: you cannot climb higher than you were, neither by tapping backward and forward nor by removing and putting back your glider during momentum (during momentum, pulling up only pays above the glider's cruising speed, worn or not), nor when another mod lowers gravity, like Loki's Feather Day (only the climbing speed the flight itself set counts as paid). Checked by the tests (ten minutes of tapping, ten minutes of glider swapping, one minute of pulling up under quarter gravity) and in game (tapping; Feather Day). One exception: when springboard momentum ends in flight, the extra momentum speed can still be turned into height, once (less than 20 m with the default settings: tested, and 11.7 m measured in game). With the makeshift sail (momentum, no glider), on its own speed, pulling back only brakes: its dive never goes above the glider's cruising speed, the only speed above which you climb. The setting VitesseQuiSeGagne = false brings back the previous flight, at fixed speeds (dive × 1.5 forward and × 3 sink, nothing kept).
- It costs stamina while open (3 per second). Out of stamina, it stalls: the sail stays open, you move at 6 m/s and sink at 7 m/s, and the controls stop answering until enough stamina is back to open a sail (10); then normal flight resumes until the next stall. You do not drop like a stone, but you lose height fast.
- No fall damage while the sail is open. If you close it in the air, the fall is counted from where you closed it.
- The sail closes by itself on the ground, in water, on a seat or a ship.
- Protected landing: a player who reappears in mid-air (disconnected while flying, server restarted) takes no fall damage until reaching the ground or water. The same when the momentum ends in the air (the makeshift sail closes, or you were falling with the sail closed), when a springboard climb ends with no sail possible, when an error closes the sail, in the glide or in the flight control, and, with no icon, when the sail closes at the first touch (see "Landing under the sail"). But taking off your glider in mid-flight, without momentum, is like closing the sail: the fall counts from there.
The springboards
Three pieces in the hammer menu (Misc), placed on a roughly flat surface: ground or floor (not on the side of a wall, nor on a steep slope). Jump on one to take off; walking over it does nothing. A springboard does not support other pieces and gives no comfort.

| Springboard | Colour | Height | Built near | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden | green | 100 m | workbench | wood, deer hide, leather scraps, resin |
| Iron | blue | 400 m | forge | iron, fine wood, linen thread, tar |
| Flametal | red, glowing | 1,500 m | black forge | flametal, refined eitr, celestial feather, black marble |
At the top, the sail opens by itself.
Launch boost (1.0.1): the climb starts at 2.5 times the springboard's speed (63 m/s wooden, 113 iron, 150 flametal, never more) and eases back to the springboard's speed over the first 40 % of the climb; slowing down before the top is unchanged. When the world's ceiling falls within the boost (a springboard built very high), the speed drops at once to the slowing-down one. Setting FacteurDeDepart (World section, enforced by a 1.0.1 server; with a server still on 1.0.0, each player keeps their own): 1 brings back the steady climb.
Sounds (1.0.1):
- the bounce: the same springboard at three sizes, layered from game sounds, a little deeper at each size: a body landing (always there), a bowstring releasing, a catapult release for iron and flametal, the whoosh of a fast start, and a short deep wooden thump for flametal. The jumper hears it follow them; other players hear it where their game sees the jumper leave (it checks four times a second): just above the springboard, up to about forty metres above it at flametal speed.
- the wind, heard by yourself only: a game storm-wind loop played at your ears (it does not swing with the camera), its volume and pitch following your real speed on one scale for all three springboards: meant to be strong at take-off and quiet while cruising (0.23 at 25 m/s, 0.7 at most), back up in a dive; it starts with the climb or an open sail (not with a running jump during momentum, nor when riding, seated or in bed) and lasts the whole flight, closed sail included, fading out on landing.
- the glider cloth: a sound meant as a muffled snap when opening and a rustle when closing (game sounds, heard by nearby players when they see the sail change); in flight, small cloth rustles, closer and louder with speed, never the same one twice in a row (eight sounds from the free game Veloren, CC BY 4.0 by DaforLynx, shipped with their credits in
CREDITS.txt, next to them). - the music: after twenty seconds of flight, the game's sailing music, as on a boat; on landing it is handed back to the game, which stops it as when leaving a boat. It never replaces the music of a place that is playing its own, nor an event's (raid): it steps aside and comes back afterwards, and switches to the Ashlands sailing music when you fly into them (played in game with a raid launched in mid-flight: it stepped aside, then came back once out of the raid's area; a place's music and the Ashlands switch are checked by the tests and on a bench that reproduces the game's music). When the game refuses to play it (its continuous music option off and the music started less than two minutes plus its length ago, or finished), the mod gives up for the rest of that flight. With that option off, flying over a place whose music loops, past the end of its track, can make the mod give up the same way until landing (rare: the option is on by default).
Game sounds are taken from each player's own installation, picked by name and length: nobody has judged them by ear yet. Each player's own settings (Sounds section): Actifs (false: none of the sounds the mod adds, flight music included; the game's own landing sound under the sail stays), VolumeDuRebond, VolumeDuVent, VolumeDeLaToile (0 to 1), MusiqueDeVol. No camera shake. What other players hear has not been tried on two machines yet.
Landing under the sail (1.0.1) makes the game's own landing sound, depending on the ground (in water, its splash), sent to everyone like the game's footsteps (not tried on two machines yet); it used to be silent. Touching something under your feet still closes the sail; if that was only a brief touch (a branch, the edge of a rock or a roof) and you drop right away, the drop is now protected; once you stay landed and still for half a second, falls count again. Touching is not enough: sliding down a tree keeps you protected while you slide, for two seconds on the ground in all at most, jumps included (running or hopping down a slope does not keep it up to the next ledge).
A springboard you look at (1.0.1) tells its name and "Jump on it: lift of 400 m" (the configured height), or "Sky blocked above: it will most likely not launch" when something is within ten metres above it. The height shown takes the world's ceiling into account (not seen in game yet). It is only a hint: the jump measures again, on the player.
You need ten metres of open sky above your head: under a roof or a tree the springboard does not launch and says so, without giving momentum. If something gets in the way during the climb, it stops 1 to 4 m below it depending on speed, then the sail opens if you are high enough.
Momentum
Each springboard jump gives ten minutes of momentum:
- flying costs no stamina;
- no fall damage, sail open or not;
- the glider is faster;
- without a glider, jump in the air still opens a makeshift sail, slower and sinking faster. It closes when the momentum ends; if that happens in the air, the landing is protected.
On screen
- Under the effect icons (top right): your speed in km/h under the glide icon, the metres gained under the climb icon, the momentum time left under its own.
- Messages (top left): thirty seconds before the momentum ends (its icon then flashes until the end; nothing when the momentum is set to thirty seconds or less), when it ends off the ground (in flight, but also for instance in water), and the first time the sail stalls out of stamina (once per opening: out of stamina, it stalls and recovers several times down to the ground; the glide icon flashes at each stall).
- First summit: the first time a character reaches the top of each springboard, a large title shows in the middle of the screen, as when discovering a biome: "First flight" (wooden), "Above the forests" (iron), "Roof of the world" (flametal). Once per character and per springboard (it comes back if the game's tutorials are reset, as they are kept in the same place), after a climb that went all the way, at least one metre. The game shows it only when no other top-left message is on screen.
Numbers
| Forward | Sink | |
|---|---|---|
| Glider | 14 m/s | 2.5 m/s |
| Glider with momentum | 25 m/s | 2.5 m/s |
| Makeshift sail (momentum, no glider) | 12 m/s | 4 m/s |
| Dive | up to 50 m/s (momentum), 35 (glider), 25 (makeshift sail) | 17.5 m/s |
| Brake (at cruising speed or below) | × 0.4 | × 0.7 |
Everything is configurable in BepInEx/config/sixvikings.envol.cfg (including VitesseQuiSeGagne, VitesseMaxEnPique and VitesseDeChuteEnPique in the glider section, VitesseMaxEnPique and VitesseMaxEnPiqueSansPlaneur in the momentum section; 60 m/s at most); the server's values are enforced on all players, except the recipes: they are read when the game starts, from each player's own file, before connecting. Keep them the same for everyone (the defaults).
Good to know
- The mod never climbs above 2,400 m (configurable, 2,800 at most), even from a springboard built on a mountain: above 3,000 m the game treats the player as being inside a dungeon. The climb slows down near that ceiling and stops there; the sail can still open up to 50 m above it.
- The flametal springboard is still wood for the game: it burns and wears in the Ashlands like a wooden piece.
- A springboard does not check what holds it: built on a floor that is later removed, it stays where it was, floating.
- With Loki (same author), on a Feather Day the glider sinks a little slower (2.2 to 2.3 m/s instead of 2.5, measured in game), and pulling up climbs a little faster, still paid for by speed (measured in game).
- The roof check looks along the player's axis, about the width of the body: a thin branch or a decoration without collision can go unnoticed. If the climb still hits something, it stops by itself after half a second.
- The height needed to open the sail (3 m) is measured below your feet, so the sail opens normally from a balcony or under a tree.
- The shapes are built in code, without a 3D package; the character keeps its falling animation while gliding.
- With a real keyboard, the measured speed is a little below the computed one while holding forward or backward: diving with momentum, 29.4 / 35.5 / 40.7 m/s measured for 31.9 / 38.7 / 44.4 computed, pulling up 37.3 for 41.4; with the key released they are equal (previous flight: dive 34.7 instead of 37.8, brake 8.8 instead of 10.1). Sinking and climbing are set by the mod.
- Speed: nothing in the game holds back a player arriving in an area not loaded yet; at high speed one can fall through the ground. The default speeds stay moderate for that reason; raising them is at your own risk.
- The mod applies no Harmony patch: flight goes through status effects, the same door the feather cape uses.
Beta status
This is a beta: played a lot in single player with our test tools, and running on our group's dedicated server since 15.10.2026 (version 1.0.1), but not yet tried with several players flying together. Feedback is welcome.
Played in game, in single player, with the test builds of 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 (and, for the last point, the distributed 1.0.1 build):
- the three springboards and their climb with the launch boost (63, 113 and 150 m/s from wood, iron and flametal); a low roof or a slab above a springboard (no launch) and above a climb (it stops below, no damage);
- gliding, diving and pulling up with the real keyboard, the heading following the camera, closing and reopening the sail with the jump key, the makeshift sail;
- the landing protection: reappearing in mid-air, momentum ending in mid-air, an error closing the sail, a brief touch followed by a drop, a slide down a tree (no damage each time; without the protection, the brief touch and the tree hurt); its icon hidden while it covers a brief touch, shown when a real fall sets it again;
- the sounds at their expected volume and pitch with no camera shake, the game's landing sound under the sail and its splash in water, another player's take-off simulated on one machine;
- the flight music: handed back to the game on landing, in water and on solid ground, given up at once when the game refuses it, stepping aside for a raid launched in mid-flight and coming back once out of the raid's area;
- what the flight shows on screen: km/h, metres gained, momentum left, the warnings and the "First flight" title;
- the distributed build loaded with every mod of our pack (37 loaded, our test tool included), its files laid flat in a folder whose name has an accent and a space, the way Gale lays them out.
Loaded on our group's dedicated server (Linux, version 1.0.1, 15.10.2026): its log shows the glider, the three springboards and the four effects registered, with no error from the mod.
Not tested yet:
- anything that needs two machines: seeing another player fly, hearing another player's take-off, server settings enforced on everyone;
- the sounds and the music judged by ear;
- checked by the tests only (and, for the music, on a bench that reproduces the game's music): the wind cut at death and on disconnection, the protection ending after two seconds of running down a slope, a place's music taking precedence over the flight music, the switch to the Ashlands sailing music, riding, seats and beds not counting as flight;
- the springboard's text shortened by the world's ceiling.
The numbers above hold for a world with ordinary settings: a world set to spend more stamina also spends more in flight.
