SafeTrash

SafeTrash is a safety-focused item disposal mod for Valheim by ADERiGMS.

Items dragged into SafeTrash are placed into a pending queue and remain in the player's inventory until permanent deletion is explicitly confirmed.

SafeTrash validates queued items again before permanent deletion.

Deletion is blocked or restricted when:

• The item is in the hotbar.
• The item is equipped.
• A queued item becomes equipped before confirmation.
• The item comes from a chest or another non-player inventory.
• A queued item is moved out of the player's inventory.
• The original source stack is reduced or split.
• The queued source can no longer be safely identified.

If the source stack increases after queueing, SafeTrash deletes only the originally queued quantity.

Moving a queued item between normal player inventory slots is supported.

Items crafted by another player trigger an additional OTHER PLAYER ITEM warning.

SafeTrash does not provide refunds, recycler rewards, coins, materials, or other economy mechanics.

Usage

1. Open the normal Valheim inventory.
2. Press Delete to open SafeTrash.
3. Drag an item into the DROP ZONE.
4. Review the pending queue.
5. Press DESTROY.
6. Press CONFIRM to permanently delete the queued items.

Additional controls:

If the confirmation timer expires, SafeTrash returns to the normal DESTROY state without deleting anything.

• Window Size: 0.75x–1.50x
• Toggle Key: Delete
• Confirmation Time: 3–30 seconds
• Debug Logging: OFF by default
• Reset Defaults

Installation

Mod Manager

Install SafeTrash using Thunderstore Mod Manager, r2modman, or another compatible Thunderstore client.

Required dependencies are handled automatically by compatible mod managers.

Manual Installation

Install BepInExPack Valheim, then place:

SafeTrash.dll

inside:

Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/

Start Valheim, open the inventory, and press Delete.

Troubleshooting

SafeTrash does not open

Check that:

• BepInEx is installed correctly.
• SafeTrash.dll is inside BepInEx/plugins/.
• The normal Valheim inventory is open.

Item cannot be queued

Common status messages:

MOVE FROM HOTBAR
UNEQUIP FIRST

QUEUE CHANGED - RE-ADD

The original queued source changed and can no longer be safely validated.

Remove the affected queue entry and add the item again.

OTHER PLAYER ITEM

The item was crafted by another player.

SafeTrash requires an additional warning step before final confirmation.

Logging

Normal release logging includes plugin startup, important warnings, and errors.

Additional diagnostics are available when DEBUG LOGGING is enabled.
