README

ToggleQol

Quality-of-life features for Valheim in one plugin, with independent toggles.

Press F8 in-game to open settings. The Norse-style menu groups switches into General, HUD, Food & Summons, and Fixes. Teal switches show enabled features; shortcut controls and save status remain visible below the scrolling list. All nine options start enabled on a fresh install. Upgrading preserves existing toggle settings and enables newly added features by default. Changes save automatically, and the menu shortcut can be changed. The world continues running while the menu is open.

Features

  • Friendly Spirit Caller collisions: removes friendly summon collision and body blocking, allowing Spirit Caller spirit boars, wolves, bears and moose to pass through mutually friendly players, summons and tame creatures. Enemies, terrain and buildings retain collision. PvP-enabled players retain blocking. Toggle off to restore affected collisions.

  • Full-duration food: removes food stat decay (no food decay), keeping food health, stamina and Eitr bonuses at full strength until normal expiry. Food duration and regeneration remain unchanged. Toggle changes apply on the next normal food update.

  • Ordered Spirit Caller summons: replaces random summon selection with a predictable spirit summon order; successful casts cycle boar → wolf → bear → moose, repeating. The next position saves per character in the local configuration. Failed spawns do not advance it. Disabling pauses the cycle and restores random selection. Native summon limits still apply.

  • Minimap day and time: adds an in-game clock and day counter to the HUD, with Day N on the left and time on the right. Choose 24h or AM/PM beside the clock toggle on the same menu row. Time displays the start of the current half hour (08:00, 08:30, 09:00) rather than ticking every minute. The clock hides with the HUD/map; its visibility and format settings save independently.

  • Auto-open and close doors: automatic doors open when you approach within 2.5 metres. Only doors opened by this feature are eligible for auto-close, after all nearby players stay at least 4 metres away for one second. Ward access remains enforced, and key-locked or one-way doors remain manual. Manual interaction takes priority until you move away; disabling the feature leaves doors in their current state.

  • Auto-run camera steering: steer auto-run by turning the camera, without holding a movement key. Jumping keeps auto-run active; normal movement, attack and dodge inputs still cancel it. It respects input blocking and does not steer ships or attached characters.

  • Use tools while swimming: build and repair with a hammer, terraform with a hoe, cultivate, chop with axes, and mine with pickaxes while swimming. Building tools and axe/pickaxe skill items are eligible; other weapons and shields keep their normal restrictions. An equipped shield is stowed when retaining an eligible right-hand tool. Swimming stamina, drowning, durability, material costs, placement checks and attack costs remain normal. Switching the feature off restores native equipment restrictions on the next equipment update.

  • Build-menu search typing fix: prevents the build-menu shortcut (B by default) from closing the menu while its search field is focused, letting you search for words containing that letter. Rebound shortcuts are supported. Escape still closes the menu. The fix has its own toggle at the bottom of the F8 feature list.

  • Mobile crossbow reload: reload crossbows while sprinting or jumping using its own F8 toggle. Normal reload duration, stamina and ammo requirements remain in effect. Dodge rolls and weapon switches still interrupt reloading. Applies to your local player.

Installation

Install with a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager. BepInExPack Valheim is the only dependency; no separate settings plugin is required.

For manual installation, install BepInExPack Valheim and copy the package's BepInEx/plugins/ToggleQol folder into the matching folder in your game or mod-manager profile.

Exit the game before updating. Keep only one copy of ToggleQol.dll. If migrating from the standalone SpiritCallerPassThrough or FullDurationFood plugins, remove their DLLs first; ToggleQol replaces them and will refuse to load alongside them.

Settings and saved summon positions are stored in BepInEx/config/benowy.qol.cfg. Keep this file when upgrading.

Multiplayer

For friendly collision behavior, install the same version with matching collision settings on every participating client and any dedicated server. Each installation keeps its own settings.

Food, the clock, ordered summons, auto-run steering and swimming tools are personal client settings. Each caster has an independent summon sequence. This mod does not increase summon limits or balance an existing army. Automatic doors use normal networked door interactions; other players see the door open or close. Auto-close waits for nearby players, including unmodded players, to move clear. Door opening is initiated only by the nearest player running this feature; an unmodded player standing closer may therefore keep it from opening automatically.

Compatibility and status

Built against Valheim 1.0.12, Unity 6000.0.75 and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350. Compilation and automated regression checks passed. Full in-game and multiplayer validation remains incomplete. Version 0.4.0 passed 64 managed checks and 98 static checks. New automatic door behavior, camera steering, swimming tool animations/actions, and clock layout still require in-game confirmation, including multiplayer testing.

If a feature is unavailable, inspect BepInEx/LogOutput.log. Change the menu key through F8 settings or edit Menu.Hotkey in the configuration while the game is closed.

Uninstall

Disable individual features through F8, or exit the game and uninstall ToggleQol through your mod manager. For manual installations, remove ToggleQol.dll.
