README

Enchanting Satchel

Using Epic Loot? Tired of reagents, dusts, and shards taking over your inventory?

Enchanting Satchel is a lightweight mod with one simple purpose: give your Epic Loot enchanting ingredients a home of their own. Keep your supplies tucked away in a blue leather pouch at your hip, and leave room in your inventory for the rest of your adventures.

It requires AzuExtendedPlayerInventory by Azumatt—an excellent companion for any well-equipped Viking—and adds its own dedicated equipment slot, leaving your utility slot free. Each satchel has 24 storage slots by default, with configurable rows and columns.

A modest pouch of blue leather, its depths far greater than its size suggests. Alas, its magic makes room only for enchanting materials.

Features

  • Made for Epic Loot ingredients: store shards, runestones, dusts, essences, reagents, etched runes, and socketable ShardStones.
  • A slot of its own: equip it through AzuExtendedPlayerInventory without giving up your utility item.
  • Less inventory clutter: eligible pickups automatically go into your equipped satchel when the whole stack fits. Otherwise, normal pickup behavior applies.
  • Familiar inventory controls: drag, split, merge, swap, withdraw, and drop materials directly from the satchel. Take All and Stack All are supported.
  • A separate stash in every satchel: carry more than one, each with its own contents, preserved through dropping, trading, and saving.
  • Your ingredients stay intact: rune enchantments and custom item metadata are preserved; differently enchanted runes do not merge.
  • Fits the adventure: contents contribute to carried weight and follow portal restrictions.
  • A little Viking charm: blue leather, red ties, and a matching pixelated inventory icon.
  • Adventure alone or together: supports single-player, multiplayer, and dedicated servers.
  • Optional recycling protection: blocks Recycle_N_Reclaim's inventory recycling action for filled or unreadable satchels.

The satchel accepts enchanting supplies only. Ordinary resources, equipment, tokens, maps, chisels, and other satchels stay outside.

How to use

Equip the satchel in its dedicated equipment slot. Open your inventory, hover over the equipped satchel, and press Interact (E by default) to open or close it. If you have rebound Interact, use your chosen key.

Move your enchanting ingredients inside, or let eligible pickups find their way into the equipped satchel automatically. Close another container or quiver before opening it.

The satchel window closes when you close your inventory, unequip or drop the satchel, die, or open another container.

Crafting

Craft one satchel at a level 1 workbench:

Ingredient Amount
Raspberries 2
Blueberries 5
Leather scraps 10
Epic dust 1

Prefab: dl_EnchantingSatchel.

Installation

Install AzuExtendedPlayerInventory 2.6.3 or newer from Hexium separately before launching. Thunderstore currently lists an older version that does not meet this mod's requirement. BepInEx, Jotunn, and Epic Loot are declared in the package manifest for automatic installation.

Requires BepInEx, Jötunn, Epic Loot, and AzuExtendedPlayerInventory. Built against Jötunn 2.30.2, Epic Loot 0.14.13, and AzuExtendedPlayerInventory 2.6.3 on Valheim 1.0.20.

Place EnchantingSatchel.dll in BepInEx/plugins/DevilInLaw-EnchantingSatchel. Install the same version on the server and every player client, then restart the game/server. Dependencies are not bundled. Recycle_N_Reclaim is optional.

When updating, replace the existing DLL rather than keeping two copies. Existing satchels and configuration are retained.

Optional Epic Loot Patches

The included EpicLoot-Patches-Optional.zip contains optional balance tweaks, separate from the satchel. Extract it to access the EpicLoot Patches folder:

  • Material-only treasure chests: replaces equipment rewards in all 20 regular treasure-chest tables shipped with Epic Loot 0.14.13, including dungeon chests and their variants. Existing drop-count chances and special shard/chisel rewards are retained. Creature drops, Haldor treasure-map chest rewards, and vanilla chest contents are unaffected.
  • No low-health enchantments: removes the 12 enchantment effects that grant bonuses at low health from Epic Loot's effect definitions.
  • Fewer coin costs: removes coin requirements from re-augmentation, identification, material/essence conversions, and augment upgrades. Other costs remain.
  • Shard-to-runestone conversion: adds 1:1 conversions at the matching rarity, from Magic through Ancient.

To use them, copy the desired JSON files from EpicLoot Patches/config/EpicLoot/patches into BepInEx/config/EpicLoot/patches, then restart the game/server. The satchel works without these patches. New chest tables from future updates or other mods need a separate coverage check.

Configuration

BepInEx creates BepInEx/config/DevilInLaw.EnchantingSatchel.cfg on first launch. The included .cfg.example is a reference and does not replace your configuration.

[General]
Debug = false
AutoStorePickups = true

[Inventory]
Columns = 6
Rows = 4

Columns and rows each accept 1–8. Size settings synchronize from the server through Jötunn. Filled satchels retain their saved dimensions: empty a satchel and reopen it to apply a new size. Debug and automatic pickup routing are local preferences.

Debug logging is disabled by default; enable it when troubleshooting. Errors and essential startup messages remain visible. Existing beta configurations retain their saved values: set Debug = false manually if it was previously enabled.

Release notes

1.0.0 is the first public release, following successful user testing of the beta. It adds the final satchel description and disables debug logging by default. The dedicated-server startup fix and stacking fixes from the beta are included. See CHANGELOG.md.

Crafting and enchanting use materials in your character inventory; withdraw supplies from the satchel before using them. Recycling protection covers Recycle_N_Reclaim's inventory action; integrations with other destruction systems have not been verified. The model replaces the dropped item appearance; no visible worn attachment is included.
