README

DogHaus Ambience

Optional sound effects for the DogHaus Valheim server. It comes with the DogHaus Extras modpack.

Everything here plays on your own PC only. Nobody else hears it. It changes no stats, loot or world data, and you never need it to join the server.

What it does

Effect What you hear
Rain on the roof Under a roof while it rains, the open-air rain gets much quieter and you hear a muffled rain-on-the-roof sound instead. Not in dungeons.
Indoor quiet Inside a building, a dungeon, or under a roof in your base, the wind, the sea and the outdoor ambience are 60 % quieter. Fires sound the same as before.
Distant night sounds At night, outdoors and away from your base, every 1.5 to 4 minutes you hear one far-off sound that fits the biome: a wolf howl, a troll, a draugr. It is sound only, no creature is there. It stays quiet during raids, near bosses and in fights.
Low-health heartbeat Below 25 % health you hear a heartbeat, the screen edges darken and the world sounds a little muffled. The lower your health, the stronger it gets. It stops once you are back above 30 %.

Every effect fades in and out over 1.5 seconds. When you switch one off, it stops at once.

Turning an effect off

  1. In r2modman, open your DogHaus profile and click Config editor on the left.
  2. Open doghaus.ambience.cfg. It appears after you have started the game once with this mod.
  3. Under [Effects], set the effect you don't want to false. The keys are RainOnRoof, IndoorQuiet, DistantNightSounds and LowHealthHeartbeat.
  4. Click Save.

To switch off all four at once, set [General] Enabled = false.

To remove the mod completely, turn off its row (DogHausAmbience) under Installed in r2modman.

You can change these settings while the game is running.

Who never gets it

A few players asked for the game as close to vanilla as possible. On their PC this mod stays silent even when it is installed.

  • With DogHausTweaks installed (it is in the main DogHaus Valheim pack), the server's own player list decides.
  • Without it, the [Players] ExcludePlayers setting decides.
