README

You're Hungry

Part of the Scavengers Survival Series for Valheim.

You're Hungry replaces the usual food-slot mindset with a grounded nourishment system. Food still matters, but it now supports a longer survival loop: eat well, avoid pushing your stomach too far, and do not let yourself reach starvation.

What it adds

  • A persistent Nourishment meter saved with the character.
  • A hidden Fullness system that digests gradually over time.
  • A custom Nourishment bar and three recent-meal cards.
  • Optional replacement of Valheim's old food HUD while preserving the health, stamina, eitr, hotbar, and boss-power HUD.
  • Food that adds Nourishment and Fullness according to its actual food values.
  • Hunger effects below 45 Nourishment, including reduced stamina recovery, movement, and sprint performance.
  • Starvation after a configurable grace period. By default, starvation cannot reduce the player below 1 health.
  • Full, Overfull, and Nauseous stages from eating too much.
  • A Bukeperry-style purge at maximum stomach capacity, which clears current food buffs, reduces Nourishment, and applies a short sickness period.
  • The real Bukeperry sickness visual for overeating and starvation, when enabled.
  • Compatibility with Survival Movement & Exertion when it is installed.

How it plays

The mod is meant to make meals part of preparation rather than a quick stat refill. Good food keeps you nourished. Eating too much in a short time can leave you uncomfortable or sick. Leaving food too long makes stamina and movement suffer before starvation becomes dangerous.

Controls

  • F7 — Write Nourishment, Fullness, hunger, sickness, HUD, patch, and compatibility diagnostics to BepInEx/LogOutput.log.

Testing controls

Disabled by default in the config:

  • F6 — Add 10 Nourishment and 10 Fullness.
  • F10 — Remove 10 Nourishment.

Configuration

The generated config includes:

  • General > Enabled — turns the mod off and restores Valheim's original food display.
  • HUD > ShowNourishmentBar — hides only the custom Nourishment HUD.
  • HUD > HideVanillaFoodHud — hides Valheim's old food icons only while the custom HUD is active.
  • Hunger drain, starvation grace period, and starvation damage.
  • Fullness digestion, nausea, purge values, and Bukeperry visuals.
  • HUD placement and recent-meal card layout.
  • Optional testing keys.

Installation

Thunderstore / mod manager

Install through Thunderstore Mod Manager, Gale, or r2modman. The required BepInEx dependency will be installed automatically.

Manual installation

  1. Install BepInExPack for Valheim.

  2. Place YoureHungry.dll in:

    Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/YoureHungry/

  3. Launch the game once to create the config file.

Multiplayer

Use the same version for the people playing together. This is especially important when players expect the same hunger, fullness, movement, and starvation rules.
