NoPopUpsInMyValheim
A BepInEx plugin that disables mod telemetry and error reporting, and removes the popups, welcome windows and splash screens mods show on the main menu. Once you are in a world, nothing is touched: in-game popups keep working as their mods intended.
What Does It Do?
Some mods send usage data and error logs to their author's server, and many open a window over the main menu every time you launch the game. This plugin switches off exactly those calls and nothing else. Every mod keeps all of its features, settings and in-world behaviour.
Telemetry and Error Reporting Disabled
Every mod built on Vapok.Common, including:
- AdventureBackpacks
- ConsoleBuddy
- DoorOpenerBruh
- FastItemTransfer
- NoFogBruh
- ShieldMeBruh
Vapok.Common is merged into each of these mods, so every copy is patched on its own. Launch pings, hourly heartbeats, world session pings and automatic error reports are all blocked. Error reports are on by default in these mods, so they are sent unless you opt out.
Main Menu Popups Removed
- Vapok.Common mods (all of the above): the startup splash screen
- EpicLoot: the welcome message and the config update prompt
- RideOnTroll: the title screen message
- Artisan_Mastery, Hunter_Legacy, Magic_Supremacy: the config reset prompt shown after each update
Installation
This is a regular plugin, not a patcher.
- Download
NoPopUpsInMyValheim.dll - Place it in your
BepInEx/plugins/folder - Launch the game
Install it on dedicated servers too if you run any Vapok.Common mod there. Those mods also send telemetry from the server.
On launch you'll see one line for each thing it switched off, for example:
✓ AdventureBackpacks: telemetry and error reports disabled
✓ AdventureBackpacks: startup splash screen disabled
✓ EpicLoot: welcome message disabled
✓ EpicLoot: config update prompt disabled
✓ RideOnTroll: title screen message disabled
✓ Hunter_Legacy: config reset prompt disabled
Mods you don't have installed are skipped silently.
How It Works
Each covered mod has one method that sends its telemetry or opens its main menu popup. The plugin gives each of those methods a Harmony prefix that skips it, and leaves everything around it alone. Mod files are never modified on disk; all changes are in memory.
The plugin patches each mod the moment the game loads it, before that mod's own startup code runs. Mods that load earlier are patched when this plugin starts. The main menu has not opened at either point, so nothing is shown or sent first.
Technical Details
| Mod | Method skipped | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Vapok.Common (every copy) | TelemetryManager.SendEventsAsync |
No mod_launch, mod_heartbeat, world_session_start or mod_error event is ever sent |
| Vapok.Common (every copy) | ModSplashManager.CheckAndQueueStartupSplashes |
The startup splash screen never opens |
| EpicLoot | WelcomeMessage_FejdStartup_Start_Patch.ShowWelcomeMessage |
The welcome message never opens |
| EpicLoot | ConfigUpdatePrompt_FejdStartup_Start_Patch.ShowConfigMessage |
The config update prompt never opens |
| RideOnTroll | TitleMessage.FejdStartup_Start_TitleMessage |
The title screen message never opens |
| Artisan_Mastery, Hunter_Legacy, Magic_Supremacy | ConfigVersionManager.TryShowPrompt |
The config reset prompt never opens |
Vapok.Common telemetry
All of Vapok.Common's network traffic for telemetry and error reports goes through SendEventsAsync, whether it is sent through Unity's web requests or the fallback HTTP client. Skipping that one method stops all of it. It also means no anonymous client ID is ever generated or stored on your machine. Checked against Vapok.Common 3.23.1016 and 3.1016.24.
Config reset prompts
The reset prompt asks whether to wipe your config to defaults after a mod update. With the prompt skipped, your current config is always kept, the same as answering "keep".
Vanilla popups
Valheim's own dialogs are never touched. That includes the connection error shown when a server rejects you and the extra version details some mods add to it.
FAQ
Q: Does this remove any mod features?
A: No. Only the telemetry sender and the main menu popups are skipped. Items, pieces, settings and everything else these mods do in a world work exactly as before.
Q: Are popups inside the world affected?
A: No. Only popups that open on the main menu are removed.
Q: Do I need to change any mod settings?
A: No. Telemetry is blocked no matter what the mod's own Enable Anonymous Telemetry or Send Error Reports settings say.
Q: Does it modify files on disk?
A: No. Everything is done in memory when the game starts. Remove the DLL and every mod behaves as it did before.
Q: What happens when one of these mods updates?
A: If a mod renames the method this plugin skips, the log shows a warning naming the mod and what may still be active, instead of failing silently.
Q: Does it work with other mods built on Vapok.Common?
A: Yes. Any mod that includes Vapok.Common is covered automatically, even if it isn't in the list above.
