Viking Crafting & Quick Deposit

Spend less time carrying supplies between your pockets and your chests. Deposit matching items, restock a chosen loadout, craft and build using nearby storage, and find where you put things.

Built primarily for a private local Valheim server, with configurable settings for other servers. Compatibility with every mod combination is not guaranteed. AI-generated software.

Your base, in one window

Press Ctrl+F to search loaded, accessible storage. Item cards show icons, stack counts, rarity, quality, enchantments, chest names and distances. Filter by rarity or search item names, prefab names and effects; container names and types do not match the search. Sort by name, nearest chest or largest stack. All matching stacks are available in one scrollable list. Contents load when opened; use Refresh storage to update that snapshot. Background recipe discovery does not periodically replace the list.

Locate marks the chest for 20 seconds with a map ping, aligned outline and distance marker, including moving boat and cart cargo. Search captures keyboard input so typing M does not open the map, and scrolling the window does not zoom the game camera.

The Deposit & restock rules tab sets item blacklists and precise carried totals. Protected slots reserves inventory positions. Equipped items, quest items and protected slots are excluded from quick deposit; hotbar protection defaults on. Enchanted items and equipment require explicit opt-in. Different item metadata is never treated as interchangeable merely because the names match.

Item-location index

Already-placed chests are indexed when you join; new and newly loaded chests are added automatically. Deposits, withdrawals and other inventory changes refresh only the affected chest. A low-frequency background repair runs in small batches to catch external changes. Search immediately shows basic item information from that same index, then enriches it with rarity and enchantments in small batches. Pending details are marked as loading, never normal. Search caches unchanged item descriptions. Refresh storage rebuilds the index from currently loaded chests; no chest rebuilding or manual item movement is needed. Range and access are checked at lookup, and contents are rechecked after ownership before anything moves. This index is a current-location cache, not a historical ledger or remote-world inventory.

Features

  • Shared chest access: multiple players can view the same chest using the normal inventory interface. Transfers, splits, swaps, take-all, stack-all, sorting and chest settings acquire short exclusive leases and recheck the selected stacks before changing anything. A competing change cancels a stale selection rather than overwriting it. Boats and wagons use their assigned inventory network view. Right-click use and dropping from shared storage first withdraw into your bag, so they require bag space. The server controls Shared chests.Enabled; install the same version on every participant and remove other simultaneous-chest-opening mods before enabling this feature.
  • Quick deposit: Period (.) puts eligible items into chests already containing that item type. Works while walking or sprinting; no automatic pickup routing. Successful deposits can show larger item icons rising above your character before arcing toward their destination. Flights default to three seconds and can be configured from two to eight seconds. Effects are local, cosmetic and capped.
  • Restock: Comma (,) tops up each configured item to its chosen total, up to its maximum stack. Three foods set to 2 means carrying two of each, not withdrawing two more every time. Deposit retains these totals.
  • Alt-click rules: Alt-left-click an inventory item to cycle Normal → Locked → Restock → Normal. Labels show LOCK or R:amount. These rules apply to the item type, not just one stack. Set an exact restock amount in the rules tab; the shortcut initially uses the clicked stack quantity. Protected slots remain a separate option.
  • Inventory trash: pick up an item from your own inventory and click Trash below the inventory grid to permanently delete the dragged quantity. Split a stack first to discard only part of it. Equipped items, quest items, locked item types, and protected slots are blocked. The button does not delete items directly from chest storage or return crafting resources. There is no confirmation screen; clicking Trash with a dragged item is the delete action. Optional Storyteller support records it as item_trash.
  • Crafting and upgrading: missing ordinary ingredients are pulled into your inventory before the native action. Station and upgrade requirements remain in effect. Material displays use required (available), for example 1 (342); hover for inventory/storage subtotals.
  • Epic Loot enchanting table: optional support for enchanting, material conversion, augmentation and disenchanting pulls ordinary cost materials from crafting storage. Selection and table access are checked again after gathering; changed selections leave the gathered materials in your bag. Items selected for modification remain Epic Loot's responsibility. Rune operations, identification, sacrifice selection and table feature upgrades retain their native inventory behavior.
  • Building: a placement attempt gathers missing materials; place the piece again after the readiness message. Free inventory space is required for gathered resources.
  • Recipe discovery: walking near loaded accessible chests learns their materials through the game's normal discovery system. You do not need to open the chest or pick up each item. Station and progression requirements still apply.
  • Manual refilling: interacting with fires, torches, braziers, ovens, cooking racks, shield generators, smelters and kilns pulls missing fuel or supported machine inputs from accessible crafting storage. Native inputs and capacity limits apply.
  • Automatic fuel: Alt + Interact (normally Alt+E) toggles each fire, torch or brazier. Its hover text shows On/Off, saved on that placed object; new objects default Off. A nearby player's client requests a short exclusive handoff from the fire's current network owner, then gathers one extra fuel item from eligible chests and refills it. Only one automatic request runs at a time. It needs a nearby connected player, loaded accessible storage, and bag space. It does not operate in unloaded areas or while everyone is offline, and does not automatically load smelter ore. Opening menus pauses automatic work. Crafting range limits apply to both player-to-chest and fire-to-chest distance.
  • Chest controls: independently toggle quick deposit, crafting pulls and building pulls; set a priority; press Sort chest to arrange existing stacks by name, quality and quantity. Sorting never merges stacks or rebuilds enchanted items.
  • Vehicle cargo: normal Container-based boat and wagon storage shares the same access checks. Backpacks and custom inventory implementations are not scanned.
  • Optional Epic Loot: automatically detects Epic Loot for rarity/effect search. Transfers retain native and custom item data. Ordinary crafting/fuel pulls exclude enchanted and custom-state materials. Works without Epic Loot installed.
  • Optional Storyteller: Viking Storyteller 0.4.8 includes the adapter for this release, recording completed deposits, restocks and material pulls. Manual and automatic fuel pulls have distinct ledger labels. A pull records movement into your bag, not proof that the fuel was consumed. No private HTTP API is needed.

Installation and limits

Install the same version on the server and every participating client. Requires BepInEx; Epic Loot and Storyteller are optional. Restart game/server after installation. Config: BepInEx/config/JacobsValheim.VikingCraftingAndQuickDeposit.cfg.

Range does not load distant chests. Only loaded, accessible containers participate. The chest owner validates access before a short ownership lease. Busy chests are skipped. A changed or full target may leave gathered materials in your bag. Recovery records block ambiguous interrupted transfers instead of blindly replaying or refunding them; keep those files when investigating a problem.

Transfers wait for the server to observe the updated chest contents before clearing their pending record. A missing confirmation stops further transfers; matching recovery checks do not recreate items. Recent full before/after records are retained locally with count and size limits. This confirms network delivery, not an atomic save of both the world and your character: Valheim character/world rollbacks after a crash remain possible.

Automated logic and isolated native game-process checks cover item preservation, storage actions, fuel handling, sorting and optional integrations. Real graphical layout, two-client contention and disconnect behavior still require in-game validation; headless tests do not establish those results.

Plant growth timers and automatic crop replacement are provided by farming mods, not this package. With PlantEasily, F6 toggles its replant feature using its own settings and planting materials.
