TempestRite
Tired of the rain? Perform a rite and change it!
Some days Valheim just won't stop raining. Drop 2 surtling cores into the obliterator, pull the lever, and the Clear Sky Rite clears the skies for everyone. 63 rites in all: bend the weather, hold back the night, grow crops twice as fast, keep wolves out of your yard, bless yourself before a hard trip, or start a fight for treasure.
Each active rite shows up as a status with a countdown, so you always know how long it has left.
๐ธ Screenshots
Rain or shine, your call. One item in the obliterator and the sky changes for everyone.
The rites page. Open the obliterator to see every rite you know, which item it takes and how many. Click an item to put it in.
๐ฎ How to use it
- Build an obliterator and open it. Rites start switched off, so it works like a normal obliterator. Click the rune stone button under it to turn them on
(it's crossed out in red while they're off). - Put the rite's item inside. You can throw in other junk you want gone at the same time.
- Pull the lever. Lightning strikes, the items are destroyed and the rite begins.
Doing the same rite again resets its timer.
๐งญ Rites
There are seven kinds of rites, and each has its own tab on the rites page. The tables below give the short version. For full details, open the Compendium in game and find the Tempest Rite page. A โ in the ๐ column means the rite also works when you join a server without the mod.
๐ฆ๏ธ Atmospheric
These change the weather for everyone. Each biome gets its own version of it, so rain falls as snow in the Mountains. A clear sky won't make the Mountains any warmer, though.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2x Surtling cores | Clear Sky Rite | No rain, snow or fog for 20 minutes. The Swamp keeps its own weather. | |
| Copper ore | Tempest Rite | A thunderstorm with strong wind for 20 minutes. Serpents love it. | |
| 2x Ooze | Downpour Rite | Rain for 20 minutes. It puts out fires burning in the open. | |
| 3x Cloudberries | Shrouding Rite | Thick fog for 20 minutes. In the Swamp, thick mist over its rain. | |
| 3x Crystals | Aurora Rite | A calm, clear sky with auroras at night for 20 minutes. | |
| 9x Bone fragments | Equilibrium Rite | Ends any weather rite right away. |
๐ Celestial
These bend day and night. The real clock keeps running in the background: the day counter goes up, crops keep growing and you can still only sleep at real night.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2x Rubies | Sun Zenith Rite | The sun stays up and it counts as day for 60 minutes. | |
| Silver ore | Midnight Rite | Night for 30 minutes, with night creatures and the night cold. | |
| Dragon tear | Gale-Breath Rite | The strongest possible wind, everywhere, for 30 minutes. | |
| 8x Greydwarf eyes | Sun-Fall Rite | Ends any day, night or wind rite right away. |
๐งญ Biome Mastery
These tame the hardest parts of a biome, for everyone.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sealbreaker fragment | True Sight Rite | The Mistlands mist is gone for 60 minutes. | |
| 3x Smoke puffs | Sootfall Rite | Clears the Ashlands smoke and heat haze for 30 minutes. You can see better, but lava still burns. | |
| 2x Serpent scales | Abyssal Surge Rite | More serpents, bigger schools of fish and more large fish for 30 minutes. | |
| 3x Guck | Nature's Rebound Rite | Ends any biome mastery rite right away. |
๐ก Domain
These only work within 100 m of the obliterator where you did them, and a ring shows where the area ends. Rites that speed things up keep working while you're away: when you come back, everything has caught up. Click the hourglass button under the obliterator to see which rites are running there, how long they have left and who started them.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9x Wolf fangs | Packward Rite | Creatures stay out of the area for 60 minutes. | |
| 3x Pukeberries | Carrion Rite | Creatures nearby walk toward the obliterator for 15 minutes. Handy for leading them into traps or pens. | |
| 3x Roots | Verdant Rite | Crops, saplings and berry bushes grow twice as fast for 45 minutes. | |
| 2x Bile bags | Vat-Boil Rite | Fermenters and cooking stations work twice as fast, and nothing burns, for 20 minutes. | |
| 8x Charred bones | Pitch-Bellows Rite | Smelters, blast furnaces and kilns work twice as fast for 30 minutes. | |

| 3x Ectoplasm | Harrow-Spur Rite | Creature spawners spawn faster and allow more creatures at once for 30 minutes. | |
| 20x Resin | Amber-Mend Rite | Damaged building pieces repair themselves for 5 minutes. | |
| Majestic carapace | Sovereign Ward Rite | Your buildings take no damage from anything for 60 minutes. | |
| 3x Black metal scrap | Hearth-Haul Rite | Carry much more, and walking while overloaded costs no stamina, for 30 minutes. | |
| 20x Wisps | Aether-Clear Rite | Works like a giant wisp light: no Mistlands mist in the area for 60 minutes. | |
| 15x Ancient seeds | Elder-Sprout Rite | Tree stumps turn into saplings of the same tree for 5 minutes. | |
| Mechanical spring | Sentry-Sight Rite | Ballistas shoot every hostile creature, but never players or pets, for 60 minutes. | |

| 2x Flint | Grounding Rite | Ends the Domain rites at this obliterator right away. |
๐ฉ๏ธ Blessings
Blessings go to every player standing next to the obliterator when you pull the lever (the lightning hits them too, but it doesn't hurt). Each player keeps the blessing until it runs out or they die.

| Kindled ribs | Second-Kindle Rite | Survive the next hit that would kill you, and knock nearby enemies back. Lasts 60 minutes if unused. | โ | |
| 2x Celestial feathers | Plume-Ward Rite | Less fall damage, and one deadly fall forgiven, for 60 minutes. | โ | |
| 3x Morgen hearts | Morgen-Pouch Rite | Pocket up to 3 tamed creatures you've petted and let them out anywhere, through portals too, for 30 minutes. | โ | |
| Writhan root | Tendril-Draw Rite | Arrows often aren't used up, and thrown spears come back to you, for 45 minutes. | โ |
๐ป Kinship
These reach every player on the server at once, wherever they are, and everyone raises a cheer. After that, the same rite can't affect a player again for a while.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | ๐ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3x Tasty mead | Skรฅl Rite | Everyone is Rested for 10 minutes. | โ | |
| Ymir flesh | Sky-Call Rite | Everyone's forsaken power is ready again. | โ | |
| Sharpening stone | Anvil-Spark Rite | Everyone's gear is repaired, no workbench needed. | โ | |

| Anniversary tankard | Rally-Horn Rite | Everyone is called to the obliterator: press Y to be brought there, or N to stay where you are. |
โ๏ธ Reckoning
These start a fight at the obliterator. A shield dome closes over its Blood Grounds, and nobody can get in or out until the fight is over. Win, and lightning strikes your reward down in treasure chests beside the obliterator, with a beam of light over each until you open it. The obliterator needs dry ground all around it (built floors over water count), with no hostile creatures inside, away from wards, claimed beds, traders, boss altars and dungeon entrances. No other raid or boss fight can be going on.
| Sacrifice | Rite | What it does | ๐ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5x Coal | Ley-Survey Rite | Check a spot before a fight. For 10 minutes, a red ring shows where the Blood Grounds would be, a red sheet shows ground under the sea (build a floor over it), and red beams mark what's in the way: claimed beds, dungeon entrances, traders, wards and more. With PingMark, enemies inside are outlined. Nothing is blocked. | ||
| 5x Withered bones | Crimson Rite | Survive the blood moon. Raids come one after another for 10 minutes under a blood moon, as tough as your progress. Every kill earns coins. | ||
| 3 different Boss trophies | Ragnarรถk Rite | A boss rush. 3 bosses that everyone inside has beaten come back one after another, weakest first, each raised with stars to about as strong as the toughest one you've all beaten. Defeat them all and each boss leaves a treasure chest of resources from its own lands, with a good chance of something rare (even boss summoning items), bigger the more stars it had. You need to have beaten Bonemass. After that, Eikthyr and The Elder count even if you skipped them. | ||
| One of Hildir's chests | Hoard-Bane Rite | Someone wants their chest back. Its owner comes for it under a shield, with three elite guards and their packs waiting around the arena. Slay the elites to break the shield, then slay the owner and take coins, valuables and upgrade idols. If you lose, you keep the chest and can try again. | ||
| 3x Scrap iron | Sanctuary Rite | Ends a running raid or Reckoning fight. No reward. | ||
| Thunderstone | Unmaking Rite | Weapons, tools, shields and armor you put in with it give back 80% of their materials, upgrades included. | โ |
More players means bigger rewards. If everyone inside dies or leaves, the fight ends with no reward.
โจ Good to know
- ๐ Discover them as you play: a rite appears on the page once you've picked up its item, just like recipes. The Tundra Shroud and Ragnarรถk Rites appear once you've found three different items they take.
- ๐งฉ Several at once: different kinds of rites run together. A new rite only replaces one of the same kind, so there's one weather at a time.
- ๐งบ Many rites in one pull: put in several rite items and they all happen together.
- ๐ Check before you pull: look at the lever to see which rites it will start.
- ๐ฐ Some places keep their weather: raids, boss fights and dungeons aren't affected.
- โฑ๏ธ Timers count play time: sleeping doesn't skip them, and rites keep going after a restart.
๐ง Configuration
Settings are in BepInEx/config/JoksterCube.TempestRite.cfg, or in game with Configuration Manager (F1). The ones most servers change:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Who Can Change Weather | Anyone | Who may perform rites: Anyone or AdminsOnly. |
| Domain Rites Radius | 100 | How far Domain rites reach from their obliterator, in meters. |
| Blessings Range | 10 | How close players must stand to receive a blessing, in meters. |
| Affected Biomes | All but Deep North | Where weather rites show. |
| Require Mod On Clients | On | Turn away players without the mod. |
Each rite also has its own section, where you can turn it off or change its items, amount, duration and more. Personal settings are at the end: Interface (statuses, hints, messages, shortcuts) and Effects (glows, particles, shield domes). Every setting has a description in the file and in Configuration Manager. Server settings are synced to all players.
๐งฉ Multiplayer & Compatibility
- โ Works in single player, when hosting, and on dedicated servers.
- ๐ For every rite, install it on the server and on every player, in the same version. Players without it can't join and are told why. Turn off Require Mod On Clients to let them in anyway; they just won't see the rites.
- ๐ Joining a server without the mod works too, with fewer rites: the blessings (except Soul-Tether), the kinship rites (except Rally-Horn) and the Unmaking Rite. The other rites are hidden, and their key items burn as usual. Your own settings apply.
- ๐ค Players who join later see the rites already running, with the time left.
- ๐ The server decides who may perform rites, and keeps rites running through a restart.
- ๐๏ธ Lots of rite statuses on screen? Use StatusGroups to group and tidy them.
๐ Translations
All in-game texts can be translated. Copy Translations/TempestRite.English.json from the mod's folder, translate the texts (not the keys, and keep placeholders like {0}), and save it next to the original as TempestRite.<Language>.json, using the game's language name (for example TempestRite.German.json). Anything you don't translate stays in English.
