# Portal Recall

## Overview
Portal Recall makes Valheim's standard wooden portals completely free to build, letting you establish travel connections without gathering portal materials.
It also includes an optional setting that removes the workbench proximity requirement from building pieces.
## Features
- **Free Wooden Portals:** Standard wooden portals (portal\_wood) cost zero resources.
- **Optional Workbench-Free Building:** Build pieces that normally require a workbench without having one nearby.
- **Normal Material Costs:** All other building pieces retain their original resource costs.
- **Other Crafting Stations Preserved:** Stonecutter, Forge, and other crafting-station requirements are unaffected.
- **Configurable:** Enable or disable workbench requirements using a simple configuration setting.
## Configuration
After launching Valheim with Portal Recall installed, open:
BepInEx/config/justinrampage.portalrecall.cfg
Under \[Building], locate:
RequireWorkbench = false
**false (default):** Removes the nearby workbench requirement for building pieces that normally require a workbench.
**true:** Preserves normal workbench requirements.
Restart Valheim after changing this setting.
**Wooden portals remain free regardless of the setting.**
## Installation
### Thunderstore / Gale / r2modman
Install Portal Recall and its BepInEx dependency through your preferred mod manager once the package is published.
### Manual Installation
1. Install BepInExPack for Valheim.
2. Place PortalRecall.dll in BepInEx/plugins/PortalRecall/.
3. Launch Valheim.
4. Configure the mod using its generated configuration file.
## Compatibility and Limitations
- Developed and tested with Valheim 1.0.17 and BepInEx 5.4.2351.
- Currently client-side only.
- No dedicated-server enforcement or automatic configuration synchronization.
- Each player who wants these features must install the mod locally.
- Free portal construction applies only to the standard wooden portal, not stone portals or third-party portals.
- Other mods or world modifiers may override building restrictions.
- Changes to RequireWorkbench require restarting Valheim.
