README

Guck and Cover

Bring down guck with a well-placed arrow.

Shoot the glowing guck deposits on swamp trees with a bow, then collect their normal drops. Both large and small deposits work. Weaker shots may need several hits; elemental arrows use their physical damage to harvest.

Aim directly at the deposit. Bolts, thrown spears, spells, and area attacks do not gain this ability. Bow stamina, durability, ammunition use, and skill progression follow the normal game rules.

Installation

Requires Valheim 1.0.16 and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. Install through Gale, or import Loon-GuckAndCover-1.0.0.zip as a local mod. For a manual installation, place GuckAndCover.dll in BepInEx/plugins/GuckAndCover/ under your chosen game/profile installation.

For multiplayer, install on the server/host and every client. Use matching versions; 0.2.0 is the minimum compatible version. Joining fails when either side lacks the mod or has an incompatible version. Single-player only needs your own installation. ServerSync is included; no separate download is needed.

Start the game, equip a bow and arrows, and shoot the deposit until it breaks. Collect the falling guck as usual.

Settings

After the first launch, settings are in BepInEx/config/com.loon.guckandcover.cfg. File edits reload while running.

Setting Default Effect
General.Enabled true Allow bow arrows to harvest guck. The server controls this in multiplayer.
Server.LockConfiguration true Restrict shared setting changes to server admins.
Debug.Logging false Local troubleshooting logs; never shared by the server.

In single-player, your own enable setting applies. In multiplayer, harvesting waits for the server's settings. With the default lock, ordinary players cannot override them. If the server unlocks settings, player edits change the shared policy for everyone. Only admins can change the lock.

Admins can edit the server's file or use a compatible in-game configuration manager. Editing a connected client's shared values in its file changes that client's saved single-player preference. Your own preferences return when you leave the server, including when you are an admin.

Upgrade or remove

Close the game before replacing the mod through Gale or replacing its DLL. Keep only one copy installed; preserve your config when upgrading. When upgrading from a test build, update the server and clients together; existing settings carry over. Disable harvesting with General.Enabled to keep joining modded servers. Removing the mod returns normal arrow behavior, but prevents joining a server that requires it. It adds no custom save data. Deposits already harvested stay harvested under the game's normal rules.
