This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2350ValheimModding-Jotunn
Jötunn (/ˈjɔːtʊn/, 'giant'), the Valheim Library was created with the goal of making the lives of mod developers easier. It enables you to create mods for Valheim using an abstracted API so you can focus on the actual content creation.
Preferred version: 2.30.0README
TrailLedger
Version 0.6.1
TrailLedger is a client-side Valheim exploration and map utility that automatically records useful resources and locations you discover, keeps renewable-resource availability information, and provides a configurable live creature radar.
It records what your client encounters nearby in personally explored terrain. It does not scan unexplored world data or reveal distant, unloaded creatures.
Features
Automatic Discovery
Explore normally to record supported nearby resources and useful locations. Discoveries persist per world, with duplicate prevention and configurable encounter distance. Preview the discovery radius on the full map, group nearby matching resources, and choose which markers to show. Hiding a marker never deletes its discovery.
| Category | Supported discoveries |
|---|---|
| Ores | Copper, Tin, Silver, Flametal |
| Foraging | Raspberries, Blueberries, Cloudberries, Mushrooms, Yellow Mushrooms, Thistle, Jotun Puffs, Magecaps |
| Seeds | Carrot seeds, Turnip seeds |
| Dungeons | Burial Chambers, Sunken Crypts, Frost Caves, Infested Mines |
| Other | Leviathans, Surtling spawners, Greydwarf nests |
Resource Map Filters
Use category filters, individual resource icon toggles, Show All, Hide All and category-only presets on the full map. Saved preferences apply to both the full map and minimap.
Raspberries ×5 means five individually recorded nearby Raspberry locations represented by one marker. Each discovery keeps its own position and availability state. Group labels can also show how many members are confirmed available. Toggle Tools → Group Nearby Resources to switch between grouped and individual markers. Dungeon entrances always remain separate.
Renewable Resource Tracking
When TrailLedger observes a known renewable resource being harvested, its location remains recorded. A radial cooldown indicator surrounds its normal full-colour icon when a reliable runtime respawn duration is available. Select the marker on the full map to see remaining known active time and availability details.
TrailLedger only counts respawn time it knows was active while you were playing in that world. Logout, offline time and paused gameplay do not advance its estimate. This intentionally avoids telling you a resource is ready simply because you were offline for several hours. If a resource has already returned when you revisit it, TrailLedger corrects itself immediately.
Expired estimates remain unconfirmed until the resource is observed. An empty resource first encountered without a known harvest time has unknown remaining time rather than a fabricated countdown. Actual nearby game state overrides the estimate. Grouped resources retain individual timers; Details shows the next known countdown.
Creature Radar
Enable Creatures → Show Creature Radar to display nearby loaded creatures. Radar is OFF by default.
- Expand unlocked biome headings with + / −. A curated catalogue assigns each vanilla logical creature to one canonical biome. Raid, invasion and unusual-location spawns cannot change its menu location. Special creatures remain under a secondary Special / Dungeons heading.
- Enemies covers all untamed creatures, including wildlife and bosses. Tamed controls the same creature types when tamed. Boss is metadata on a creature row.
- Click the creature's runtime trophy icon or name to enable/disable it. A tick means enabled; a slash means disabled. Icons remain recognisable. Original category artwork is the fallback when no trophy is available.
- Each row has its own minimum-star control: Any → 1★+ → 2★+ → 3★+ → Any, extending further when referenced definitions use higher levels. Stars equal level minus one. A higher threshold is allowed for modded gameplay; it does not imply that a vanilla creature can naturally have that many stars.
- Enable All Creature Types, Disable All Creature Types, and biome Show / Hide change visibility without resetting star requirements. The radar master and Enemies/Tamed switches remain independent.
For example, set Lox = 3★+ and Deathsquito = Any simultaneously. Hiding and re-enabling Lox retains its 3★ requirement. Offspring, equipment and sleeping variants share logical creature filters. Runtime radar still works outside a creature's canonical biome. Existing star values and the star control cycle are preserved, including when catalogue entries move.
Meadows is always available. Other biome headings unlock when their preceding boss is defeated or you physically enter that biome. Ocean and named modded biomes unlock on entry. Other / Modded remains available for uncategorised entries. Unlocks are saved for the current world and never relock. Special / Dungeons unlocks with its parent biome. This menu gating does not geographically restrict radar.
Normal startup reads the compiled vanilla list and creature-catalog.json; it does not scan every spawn table, location, dungeon, raid or Character prefab. Unknown valid modded creatures are cached when encountered, using the first encounter's biome. Uncertain definitions use Other / Modded. Game/mod changes mark the cache potentially stale without automatically rebuilding it. Icons and creature rows are created on demand for expanded sections or radar, then cached for the session.
Under Settings → Creature Catalogue, use Rebuild Entire Creature Catalogue after changing creature mods; its confirmation warns about possible stutter while registered definitions are inspected. Per-biome rebuilds validate only that category's cached dynamic entries. Rebuild Current Biome also considers nearby creatures. These targeted actions never fall back to a global scan. Resource discoveries and existing creature preferences are preserved. The sidebar fills the map's available height with top and bottom margins in the active canvas coordinate system. Navigation stays fixed while section content scrolls. Drag or click the scrollbar, or use the wheel for approximately one row per event. The map wheel handler is suppressed while hovering TrailLedger and remains unchanged outside it. Section scroll positions are remembered during the session; biome expansion is saved. Resource rows use the same icon/tick/slash controls, with counts in a separate non-toggle area. Creature positions are live only and are never saved in the persistent discovery database. Dead, unloaded or out-of-range creatures disappear from radar. TrailLedger uses local loaded characters in personally explored terrain and the same interior as the player; it does not search distant or unloaded entities.
Silver and Wishbone
New Silver discoveries require an active Wishbone finder effect as well as normal distance and exploration eligibility. Previously discovered Silver remains remembered after the Wishbone is unequipped.
Dungeons
Dungeon entrances are persistently recorded and individually tracked. Dungeons → Track Resources Inside Dungeons is OFF by default. This prevents places such as Burial Chambers from filling the map with Yellow Mushroom discoveries unless you explicitly want that information.
The preference suppresses new ordinary resource discoveries inside vanilla-classified interiors. It does not hide entrances or erase resources already recorded. Overworld resources beside entrances remain eligible. Custom interiors outside Valheim's native interior classification may not be recognised.
Completed Dungeons
Left-click a TrailLedger dungeon marker on the full map to open Details, then choose Mark Completed. The normal dungeon icon gains a distinct checkmark badge and Completed label. Choose Mark Uncompleted to reverse it.
Alternatively, open Dungeons → Browse Discovered Dungeons… and select an entrance. The map centres on it and opens the same Details controls. The list includes older discoveries and entrances hidden by visibility filters, so rediscovery is unnecessary.
Show Completed and Show Uncompleted are independent filters, both ON by default. Completion persists between sessions. It is personal TrailLedger metadata only and never changes the actual dungeon or Valheim world save.
Pin Labels
Use Settings → Pin Labels to cycle between Both Maps (default), Full Map Only and Hidden. This changes TrailLedger names only; counts, stars, renewable timers and dungeon completion badges remain visible.
Discovery Radius
Open Settings → Discovery Radius and use − 5m / + 5m. The setting saves immediately. Its minimum is 5m, default 20m, and maximum 50m.
Changing a radius, or choosing Preview, displays a temporary gold circle centred on your player on the full map. It follows map zoom and movement, lasts eight seconds, and closes with the settings panel or map. The circle shows the horizontal footprint of the 3D encounter distance; vertical separation still matters.
Settings → Creature Radar Radius uses the same controls and preview, with a minimum of 10m, default 80m, and maximum of 150m.
Client-side Mod
TrailLedger runs on your client. No TrailLedger installation is required on a dedicated server, and other players do not need it installed. It stores its own discovery metadata and does not directly modify Valheim world saves or synchronise your discoveries to other players.
Installation
Thunderstore / r2modman
Install Racidon-TrailLedger through Thunderstore or r2modman. A Thunderstore-compatible manager installs the declared dependencies automatically. Launch Valheim from that modded profile.
Manual Installation
- Install BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350 and Jötunn 2.30.0.
- With Valheim closed, copy
plugins/TrailLedger.dllfrom the ZIP intoBepInEx/plugins/TrailLedger/under your Valheim installation. - Keep the included licence and third-party notices with your local copy. Remove duplicate older TrailLedger DLLs, then launch through BepInEx.
The exact tested manifest dependencies are:
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim-5.4.2350ValheimModding-Jotunn-2.30.0
Dependency DLLs are not bundled in TrailLedger's package.
Usage
- Launch Valheim with TrailLedger installed and explore normally.
- Open the full map, normally M.
- Open TrailLedger · Discoveries.
- Choose resource categories and visibility, or enable radar under Creatures → Show Creature Radar.
- Select markers for Details, including resource countdowns and dungeon completion.
- Use Settings for discovery/radar radii and Tools for grouping and marker maintenance.
Tools → Rebuild TL Markers recreates TrailLedger's persistent marker layer while retaining discoveries, dungeon completion, timers and preferences. Live radar reconciles separately. Ordinary manual pins are left alone.
Tools → Advanced… → Clear TrailLedger Discoveries for This World… deletes only the current world's TrailLedger records after confirmation and a backup. Discovery then pauses until Resume Discovery or the next session. Other worlds and filter preferences remain intact.
Data and Configuration
Paths are relative to the active Valheim installation or mod-manager profile:
| File or folder | Purpose |
|---|---|
BepInEx/config/au.astra.trailledger.cfg |
BepInEx settings, including discovery/radar radii and grouping |
BepInEx/config/TrailLedger/world-<UID>.json |
Per-world discoveries, renewable state and dungeon completion |
BepInEx/config/TrailLedger/creature-catalog.json |
Versioned dynamic creature cache and game/mod fingerprint |
BepInEx/config/TrailLedger/filters.json |
Resource/creature visibility choices, runtime creature catalogue, per-type minimum stars and UI preferences |
Back up the entire BepInEx/config/TrailLedger/ directory to preserve personal discoveries and filters, plus the .cfg file for configuration. Data is per world, shared by characters using the same installation/profile. Creature type names and choices can be saved; creature positions cannot.
Older schema-1 discoveries migrate automatically, preserving the original in a .pre-0.4.bak file. Pending changes save periodically and on normal exit; a crash can lose the newest unsaved changes. Review discovery files before sharing, since they contain locations and world identifiers.
Existing per-creature star settings from development builds are preserved. Canonical explicit preferences win alias conflicts; an alias-only configuration reuses its original preference key and values. Unused alias settings remain preserved.
On upgrading legacy 0.4 filters, the original file is backed up as filters.json.pre-0.5-<timestamp>.bak. The global minimum-star setting is retired; each creature starts at Any. Existing explicit type choices and resource choices remain. Hidden legacy families are folded into known type visibility where no explicit type choice exists. Enemies now covers all untamed creatures; review that switch after migration.
For diagnostics, use trailledger stats in the console or enable Logging.Verbose. The dungeon list also offers Diagnose clicks (2 minutes) for temporary interaction logging.
Compatibility
The previous 0.4.0 release was tested in-game with Valheim 1.0.12, BepInEx 5.4.23.5 (pack 5.4.2350) and Jötunn 2.30.0. The 0.4.0 resource timers, full-colour icons, trophy radar, creature filters/stars and dungeon completion workflow have been confirmed in-game.
It is designed to coexist with ordinary vanilla/manual map pins. Another mod independently adding resource or creature pins may produce duplicate visual information, and map UI mods may overlap controls. Compatibility with every map mod is not guaranteed.
Discovery requires loaded objects and personal exploration, with no line-of-sight test. Nonrenewable resources, spawners and Leviathans can remain recorded after depletion or disappearance. Group centres are approximate, and the rendered-marker limit may hide some distant records without deleting them. Controller navigation and localisation are not implemented.
