README

CraftingMenuSorter

Sorts every crafting list into sections with a heading each. The game lists every recipe at a station in one column, craftable ones first, then by name, so the best stamina food sits somewhere between a mead base and a health stew, and a black metal sword sits between a bronze one and a wooden shield. This mod groups each list by what the recipe is, orders each group so the newest or strongest is at the top, and lets you fold a group away.

Each section has a heading with its name and the number of recipes in it. Click a heading to collapse the section; click it again to open it. Collapsed sections are remembered with your character. Inside every section the greyed-out recipes you lack ingredients for sit at the bottom, under the ones you can craft; that can be turned off.

Food stations

At the cauldron, the oven, the food preparation table and any other station with food in its list, the sections follow the colour of the food's icon in your inventory:

  • Health: the red-icon foods, highest health first.
  • Stamina: the yellow-icon foods, highest stamina first.
  • Magic: the blue-icon eitr foods, highest eitr first.
  • Balanced: the white-icon foods with no single main value, highest first. Can be turned off, which puts each under whichever of its values is bigger.
  • Other: whatever else the station makes, such as the mead bases at the cauldron, in the game's order.

The number a section is sorted by is shown at the right end of each food row, so the order is visible at a glance; that can be turned off. The rule is the game's own: a food is a health food only when its stamina is under half its health, a stamina food only when its health is under half its stamina, a magic food only when both are under half its eitr, and balanced otherwise.

Something that still has to be cooked, such as bread dough, an unbaked pie or raw kale chips, is sorted by the food it turns into in the oven or on the cooking station, read from the game's own cooking tables. The uncooked item's own numbers are ignored; they are not what you will eat. A plain ingredient, such as the raw fish the preparation table cuts, goes under Other with no number even though the grill would cook it: an item with no food values of its own counts as an ingredient, and Food.Ingredients names any others.

Gear stations

At the workbench, the forge, the black forge, the galdr table and any other station with weapons, armour, tools or ammunition in its list, the sections are what the item is, read from the game's own data for the item, never from a list of names, so a modded weapon lands in the right place too:

  • One Handed: swords, maces, knives, spears, torches.
  • Two Handed: battleaxes, sledges, atgeirs, greatswords.
  • Dual Wielding: dual axes, dual knives, claws and other fist weapons.
  • Bows: bows and crossbows.
  • Magic: staffs and wands.
  • Shields.
  • Armor: helmets, chest and leg pieces, with the pieces of one set standing together: helmet, chest, legs.
  • Capes.
  • Trinkets.
  • Tools: hammer, hoe, cultivator, fishing rod, pickaxes, and the one-handed axes you cut trees with.
  • Ammunition: all the arrows first, then all the bolts, then the rest, each run newest first.
  • Bombs: ooze, bile, tar and frost bombs, anything thrown that is used up on the throw.
  • Misc: everything else, in the game's order.

Inside each section the items are ordered by the biome their ingredients come from, newest biome at the top: Deep North, Ashlands, Mistlands, Plains, Mountains, Swamp, Black Forest, Meadows. An item's biome is the newest biome among its ingredients (a wolf armour chest needs silver and wolf pelts, so it is a Mountains item), from a built-in table of the game's materials; trophies do not count. Within one biome the items are in alphabetical order, except that armour keeps each set together. Nothing is shown at the right end of a gear row.

The upgrade tab is never touched. A station with neither food nor gear in its list is left exactly as the game has it.

Config

BepInEx\config\rhenn.craftingmenusorter.cfg, written the first time the game starts with the mod. With the ModSettings mod installed (a separate mod by the same author), everything below can be changed in game from the gear button in the inventory screen, and the open list follows at once.

  • General.Enabled (true): master switch, read when the game starts.
  • General.GreyedOutLast (true): inside each section, the greyed-out recipes you lack ingredients for go to the bottom. Off, each section is one list in its own order whether you can craft the item or not.
  • General.ShowValues (true): show the sorted value at the right end of each food row.
  • General.RememberCollapsed (true): keep the collapsed sections with the character.
  • Food.Order (Health,Stamina,Magic,Balanced,Other): the food sections from top to bottom. Eitr is accepted for Magic.
  • Food.Balanced (true): give the white-icon foods their own section. Off, each is listed under whichever of its values is bigger.
  • Food.Ingredients ($item_fishraw): items to list under Other with no number although they can be cooked into food, comma separated, by the game's $ name or the name shown in the list.
  • FoodLabels.Health, Stamina, Magic, Balanced, Other: the heading of each food section. A $ token of the game's own, such as $item_food_eitr, is translated into the game's language.
  • Gear.Order (OneHanded,TwoHanded,DualWielding,Bows,Magic,Shields,Armor,Capes,Trinkets,Tools,Ammunition,Bombs,Misc): the gear sections from top to bottom.
  • GearLabels.OneHanded, TwoHanded, DualWielding, Bows, Magic, Shields, Armor, Capes, Trinkets, Tools, Ammunition, Bombs, Misc: the heading of each gear section.
  • Biomes.Overrides (empty): add or change the biome of a material, comma separated, as Prefab=Biome, for example MyModOre=Swamp. Biomes are Meadows, BlackForest, Swamp, Mountains, Plains, Mistlands, Ashlands, DeepNorth. With the debug setting below on, the log names every material the built-in table does not know.
  • Debug.LogRecipeRows (false): write one line per recipe row to BepInEx\LogOutput.log each time a list is built, with the item, its values or ingredients and the section it went to. Turn it on only for a bug report.

Multiplayer

Client-side. Only the player who wants the sorted lists needs the mod; it changes nothing in the world or for other players. Which sections are collapsed is saved in your character file, nowhere else.

Known limits

  • A collapsed section's recipes are still in the list for the gamepad: stepping down with the stick walks through them without showing them. Open the section to see where you are.
  • The game's own sortcraft console setting is overridden in every list the mod sections; it still applies to a list with neither food nor gear.
  • A material from another mod is in no biome until you add it to Biomes.Overrides; until then an item made only from such materials sorts to the bottom of its section.
