Rusty Heathens Controller Audit
Temporary audit-only diagnostic for the Heathens' Haven Valheim server.
This package is being used to identify what controller/gamepad Valheim can actually see before any controller-blocking rule is added to ModGuard.
What it reports
When installed on the dedicated server and a player client, the audit can report:
- legacy Unity joystick/controller name;
- Input System display/product name;
- manufacturer when exposed;
- input interface and layout;
- device ID;
- vendor/product IDs when exposed by Unity;
- whether controller activity was observed during the session.
Server log lines begin with:
[RHCA] CONTROLLER_AUDIT
What it does NOT do
- It does not block controller input.
- It does not kick players.
- It does not alter Valheim controls.
- It does not collect controller serial numbers.
Install for the test player
Install this package with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman in the same Valheim profile used for Heathens' Haven.
Restart Valheim after installing it, join the server, and use the controller/programmed buttons normally for a few minutes.
Server requirement
The dedicated server must also run this DLL, and the server ModGuard allowlist must contain:
com.rustylasergaming.controlleraudit
This package being allowed by ModGuard does not make it mandatory for every player. It is intended to be installed only on the player being diagnosed unless the server owner wants to audit additional players.
Important limitation
Steam Input, reWASD, JoyToKey, controller firmware, adapters, or similar software can hide the physical controller model by presenting a generic/virtual controller or by translating controller buttons into keyboard/mouse input.
The audit can only report what Unity/Windows exposes to Valheim. It cannot prove a hidden physical controller model.
