Supermans Storage Custom Storage
Client-side mod for Valheim. Design a neat storage rack of chests in a window with a 3D preview, snap it into place as a blueprint, then build it piece by piece with your hammer from the materials in your inventory or nearby chests. Later, point at the rack and upgrade it: more chests, or better chests once you unlock them.
The rack is made only of normal vanilla pieces (chests, floors and poles), so it works on any server and every player sees it, even players without the mod. The server doesn't need the mod.
1. Design it
Equip the hammer, open the Furniture tab and pick Storage Rack. Its icon is the chest you've picked. A design window opens:
- Chest: every chest your game has (Wood, Reinforced, Black Metal, Barrel, Personal, Grausten).
- Size: how many chests wide, high and deep.
- Chests face: Front, Right, Back or Left. With a rack two or more deep, Back to back or Face to face split it into two halves facing apart or toward each other.
- Straight / sideways mix: all the same, alternate rows, alternate columns, or checkerboard.
- Frame: Wood, Ashwood or None, and whether there's a post between every chest.
- Spacing: how far apart the chests are side to side, above each chest (up to the shelf above), and front to back for racks more than one deep. Use the -/+ buttons (5 cm steps) or the slider, or a preset: Touching, Snug, Roomy or Wide open. 0 means the chests touch.
The preview on the left updates as you change things. Drag it to turn it. Under it you can see the size in meters and the materials for the whole rack, with how many you have.
Click Place blueprint. To change the design later while the rack is still selected, press Y.
2. Place it
The rack follows your aim as a see-through ghost. Scroll to rotate it, then click to lay the blueprint down. This costs nothing.
Pick the snap point: press Q / E, the game's normal snap keys, to choose which corner of the rack snaps, or follows your aim when there's nothing to snap to. The corner's name shows on screen, like "Bottom front-left corner", "Top back-right corner" or "Shelf 2 front-right corner". Bottom corners come first, then the top, then each shelf. Press until it goes back to auto to let the game pick the closest one.
It snaps like a normal building piece:
- Onto floors. The rack stands on the floor, lined up with the floor grid.
- Against walls. It snaps to a wall's corners.
- To other racks, built or still a blueprint. You can put one beside another or stack one on top.
- Other pieces you build, like walls, also snap to a blueprint's corners and shelves.
Hold Shift while placing to turn snapping off, the same as in vanilla.
3. Build it
The blueprint shows as see-through blue pieces. Hit a piece with the hammer to build the real piece there.
- Look at a piece to see what it needs and how much you have, counting your inventory and nearby chests.
- Hold Left Shift while you hit to build as much as you can afford in one go, in the right order.
- Bright pieces can be built now. Faint pieces wait for the pieces under them, because a shelf needs its posts first.
- Building needs a workbench nearby, the same as normal building.
- When every piece is built, the blueprint disappears.
- To move or rotate a placed blueprint, look at it, press U and click Move / rotate. It goes back onto your hammer to be placed again. This only works before any of its pieces are built.
- To remove a blueprint, look at it with the hammer and middle-click, the hammer's normal remove button. Middle-click again within 3 seconds to confirm. You can also press U on it and click Remove blueprint in the window, or press Delete. Pieces you've already built always stay.
4. Upgrade it
With the hammer out, look at a rack you built with this mod and press U. The design window opens with that rack's current design. Change what you like, such as a new chest type, more columns, or rows, then click Upgrade rack.
- The rack becomes a blueprint of the new design. Pieces that already match stay where they are.
- Build the new pieces with the hammer as you gather the materials. When a new chest goes in, the old chest in its spot is taken down and its contents move into the new chest. Anything that doesn't fit goes to the rest of the rack, then your inventory, then the ground. Nothing is deleted.
- Old pieces the new design doesn't use are taken down as you build, or when the upgrade is finished. Their materials drop where they stood, like with the hammer.
- When a rack gets wider, its left end stays put and it grows to the right. You can change this with UpgradeKeepsSide.
- Pressing U on a blueprint that isn't built yet lets you redesign it.
Perfect spacing
The mod measures the real chest and frame pieces in the game, so every chest type lines up:
- Chests are spaced exactly as you set them, from touching to wide open.
- Every post stands centred on a floor-tile corner, the way vanilla poles snap, so the shelves end at the posts instead of hanging out past them. Shelves are only as deep as the chests need.
- Posts run continuously from the ground to the top shelf, and the shelves sit at exact heights between them, like real shelving. Posts come in whole pole lengths, so any extra height becomes short legs under the bottom shelf. The window shows how high it sits.
- Side-to-side spacing is exact, like vertical spacing: the slider moves chests smoothly from touching to wide open.
- With Post between every chest on, a post goes on every tile corner that falls in a gap between two chests. The rack slides the chests along the shelf so as many gaps as possible line up with a corner. The window says how many fit, and a wider side spacing fits more.
- Long stretches without a post get extra support posts along the back edge, no more than 2 tiles apart, so the shelves are held up.
- The shelves are made of whole floor tiles, so the rack still snaps to Valheim's building grid.
- Sideways chests and mixed racks get cells that fit the chest both ways, so nothing ever overlaps.
- The posts reach exactly from one shelf to the next, with headroom above each chest for the lid.
Multiplayer
- Anyone can build the pieces, with or without the mod. A piece counts as built no matter who built it.
- Friends who have the mod also see your blueprints, can build them with their own materials, and can upgrade racks.
- Blueprints are saved per world in
BepInEx/config/SupermansCustomStorage/. Each built piece also remembers its rack, so a rack can be upgraded later by anyone with the mod.
Config
Press F2 with Supermans Configs installed, or edit BepInEx/config/supermans.customstorage.cfg. The design window changes the Rack Design settings for you.
