Back at base, one Quick Stack should put away your gathered materials without sending your travel food into a chest. Runic Food Guard connects RunicStorage with ExtraSlots so the stacks in your three dedicated food slots stay with you. Spare food in your regular inventory can still be stashed.

Requires RunicStorage 1.3.4 and ExtraSlots 1.2.12, with BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350. This release checks the two mod versions exactly. Review compatibility before updating either one. Install on each player's client; the dedicated server does not need it.

PROVISIONS / WHAT STAYS WITH YOU

• All three ExtraSlots food-slot stacks stay carried during RunicStorage Quick Stack.
• Spare stacks of the same food in regular inventory remain eligible for storage.
• Your chosen shortcuts still work. This follows the food slots, regardless of their bindings. Quick Stack uses your RunicStorage binding, normally Left Alt+Q.
• Existing RunicStorage protections remain in place, including its configured hotbar and equipped-item rules.

The protection also covers Quick Stack's controller action and deferred retries. It adds no new keybind, item, inventory slot, recipe or world data.

This applies to Quick Stack only. Store All (normally Alt+A), restocking, consolidation, crafting, recycling, manual transfers and other mods' storage actions keep their normal behavior.

PACK FOR THE ROAD / INSTALLATION

1. Close Valheim.
2. In your mod manager, select the profile you play with and install RunicFoodGuard with the dependency versions listed above.
3. Launch the modded game. Put food in ExtraSlots' dedicated food slots and use RunicStorage Quick Stack as usual.

Each friend needs the add-on on their own client to protect their own food. It introduces no server requirement, and you can keep your existing character and world.

Manual installation: install the required dependencies first. Extract this package's plugins/RunicFoodGuard folder into your active BepInEx/plugins directory, so the DLL is at BepInEx/plugins/RunicFoodGuard/RunicFoodGuard.dll.

Coming from the local test package? With Valheim closed, remove the locally imported Runic Food Guard entry before installing the Thunderstore package. Keep only one copy of RunicFoodGuard.dll. Back up its config first if you changed it.

Removal: close the game and uninstall this add-on through your manager, or remove its DLL from a manual installation. Its config file can also be removed. Food slots themselves belong to ExtraSlots and remain unchanged.

YOUR SETTINGS

The first launch creates BepInEx/config/compat.runicstorage.extraslots.foodguard.cfg:

Enabled turns this protection on or off. DebugLogging records the number of protected food stacks per Quick Stack attempt; leave it off unless investigating a problem. Edit the file with Valheim closed, or use a compatible in-game configuration manager.

FIELD NOTES / IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

Food is still being stashed: confirm you used Quick Stack, the food was in the dedicated food slots, and the mod is installed in the profile you launched. In BepInEx/LogOutput.log, look for:

Food-slot Quick Stack protection installed. RunicStorage 1.3.4 / ExtraSlots 1.2.12. Enabled=True.

After a dependency update: unsupported versions or changed hooks leave the add-on inactive. Its startup error includes FOOD PROTECTION NOT ACTIVE; normal RunicStorage behavior then continues without this extra protection. Missing or older dependencies may instead produce a BepInEx dependency error. Check versions before relying on the protection again.

A Quick Stack attempt is skipped: if the active add-on cannot read the food slots, it cancels that attempt before transferring items and shows a message. Include the full BepInEx log, mod versions and the action you used in a bug report.

Validation: the maintainer reports successful in-game use on Windows with Valheim 1.0.15, RunicStorage 1.3.4 and ExtraSlots 1.2.12 in a dedicated-server session. The release also passed 25 offline checks. This does not establish coverage for every mod combination or platform.
