README

Station Tasks

Give each production station its own recipe and keep-in-stock target. Station Tasks extends BetrValheim so stations stop pulling resources when enough finished stock and queued work exist, then resume when you use that stock.

Stations start idle with a target of 0. They automatically take neither materials nor fuel until you configure a positive task. Previously saved positive tasks remain active after upgrading.

Getting started

  1. Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Accept the required dependencies and launch the game modded.
  2. Look at a production station's interaction point and press Left Ctrl + E (Ctrl + your normal Use key).
  3. Choose its recipe, enter a positive Keep in stock target and choose the Stock radius.
  4. Press Start task.

For example, set one smelter to keep 100 copper, another to keep 50 tin, and a kiln to keep 200 coal. Each station stores its own task in its networked world data.

Opening the panel or pressing Cancel does not start automation. The panel uses Valheim's native wood background, fonts, item icons and controls.

Supported stations

  • Charcoal kilns.
  • Smelters and blast furnaces.
  • Windmills and spinning wheels.
  • Eitr refineries.
  • Cooking stations and ovens.
  • Fermenters.

The recipe list comes from the individual station. There is one active recipe per station. This does not add automatic crafting to workbenches, forges or cauldrons. Fires, hearths and torches retain BetrValheim's normal fuel behavior.

How stock targets work

  • Counts accessible nearby chests, BetrValheim drawers, loose finished items, and matching queued or uncollected output in nearby stations.
  • Stock radius controls counting around each station. Input supply range, blocked items, reserves, station switches and refill switches still follow BetrValheim's settings.
  • Pause new production stops new material; fuel may still be pulled to finish loaded work for a positive task.
  • Target 0 blocks automatic materials and fuel while retaining the recipe and radius. Reset to idle clears the task and also blocks both.
  • Already loaded resources can still finish through normal game processing. Changing a task does not remove loaded inputs or existing stock. Manual loading is still possible.
  • Fermenters only start a whole batch if its output fits. A batch of six with a target of 100 waits at 96 stock until stock falls to 94 or below.
  • Harvesting, tapping and burn protection follow your existing game/mod setup; this add-on does not add them.

Multiplayer and dedicated servers

Every player running BetrValheim automation needs the same version of Station Tasks. The client currently simulating a station applies its task. A client without this add-on can ignore the task and the default-zero rule when it takes over a station. There is currently no required-version enforcement.

BetrValheim and its dependencies must be installed on the server and clients in matching versions. The server controls BetrValheim's gameplay settings; refill and the relevant station types must be enabled.

Station Tasks itself runs on clients. A server-side copy is not required just to transport the station's task data, and installing it only on the server does not enforce targets. Tasks use Valheim's normal networked world data for synchronization and persistence. Editing checks nearby-player and ward access.

Automatic pulling requires a nearby player within BetrValheim's 64-metre activation range. This add-on does not add offline automation. Simultaneous decisions by different clients may temporarily exceed a shared stock target.

Compatibility and testing

Built against Valheim 1.0.16, BetrValheim 4.54.2, Jotunn 2.30.2, and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351. BetrValheim integration uses internal refill methods; future updates may require an updated Station Tasks release.

The release build, 35 logic checks, isolated game startup and native UI construction/rendering checks passed. Live-world production, multiplayer ownership handoff, dedicated-server operation and world save/reload have not yet been tested. This is the first public release.

For a first check, place an unconfigured kiln near wood and confirm it stays idle. Configure a target of 5 coal, confirm it stops loading at the target including queued work, use some coal and confirm it resumes. Then set the target to 0 and confirm pulling stops.

Configuration and manual installation

The modifier key and default stock radius are in BepInEx/config/local.valheim.stationtasks.cfg, generated on first startup. Recipe and target settings belong to each station, not this config file.

For manual installation, install the three dependencies, then copy plugins/StationTasks.dll from this ZIP into your profile's BepInEx/plugins/StationTasks/ directory. Restart the game after installing or updating.

If upgrading from a manually supplied build, remove the old Local-StationTasks plugin folder before installing this package to avoid duplicate copies. Saved station tasks use the same data key and remain compatible.

To uninstall, remove Station Tasks through your mod manager (or remove its manually installed DLL) and restart. Ordinary BetrValheim automation resumes, including at stations that were idle under Station Tasks. Unused task metadata can remain in the world.
