TameCraft
A configurable Valheim 1.0 animal husbandry overhaul focused on making taming, affection, breeding, pregnancy, and offspring growth faster and more convenient while preserving vanilla behavior when disabled.
What's New in v1.1.0: Global Relative Multipliers
TameCraft now features a streamlined Global Relative Multiplier architecture:
- Proportional Species Balance: Instead of forcing every animal into identical timers, all numerical mechanics scale relative to that species' native vanilla baseline. A Lox naturally takes longer than a Boar, preserving natural biological hierarchy automatically.
- Dynamic Vanilla Baseline Caching: Original prefab values are captured at runtime before multipliers are applied. Setting any multiplier to
1.0produces 100% pure vanilla behavior. - Universal Creature Compatibility: Automatically scales all vanilla creatures (Boar, Wolf, Lox, Hen, Asksvin) and custom tamable creatures added by other mods with zero extra configuration.
- Dramatically Simpler Configuration: Say goodbye to dozens of repetitive per-species entries. Adjust a single multiplier once and all creatures scale consistently.
- Exploration-Friendly Pacing: Active base interactions (petting, feeding, mating checks) remain fast while you are home, while passive life stages (gestation, offspring growth) tick naturally in the background while you are away exploring dungeons and sailing.
Features
- Proportional Taming Speed: Tame wild beasts faster while maintaining natural species difficulty.
- Active Feeding Frequency: Animals get hungry and consume food faster to accelerate taming progress.
- Affection & Bonding System: Pet your tamed animals to build affection and bond with them. Configurable petting cooldowns and affection rewards.
- Affection-Gated Breeding: Creatures require mutual affection and bonding before they will breed, adding a rewarding sense of companionship to husbandry.
- Fast, Streamlined Breeding & Pregnancy: Shorter partner check intervals, higher conception chances, and accelerated gestation without desynchronization.
- Prorated Offspring Growth: Juvenile animals mature smoothly into adults with proportional growth times based on their species.
- Lineage & Parent Tracking: Offspring inherit affection and track both their mother and sire across save reloads and world unloads.
- Optional Two-Parent Star Inheritance / Genetics: Configurable Mendelian-style star inheritance from both parents with customizable mutation chances (disabled by default).
- Server-Authoritative Persistence: All custom metadata (affection, pregnancy state, lineage, genetics) is saved directly into native Valheim ZDOs—no external database or sidecar files required.
- Dedicated Server Support: Engineered for smooth multiplayer synchronization and dedicated servers.

Server Use & Multiplayer
TameCraft is built specifically for multiplayer environments and dedicated servers:
- Dedicated Server Installation: Required. Breeding cycles, gestation timers, offspring birth, and genetics calculations are server-authoritative.
- Client Installation: Required. Clients require TameCraft installed to pet animals, send petting RPCs to the server, and sync affection tooltips and interactions.
- Summary: Install TameCraft on both the dedicated server and all connecting clients.
Compatibility
- Vanilla Fallback: Setting any multiplier to
1.0restores exact vanilla timing. Disabling individual subsystems or the master switch safely yields control to pure vanilla Valheim mechanics. - Modded Creatures: Any modded creature with standard Valheim
Tameable,Procreation, orGrowupcomponents will automatically benefit from TameCraft's speed multipliers! - Other Overhaul Mods: TameCraft patches Valheim's native
Tameable,Procreation, andGrowupcomponents. Compatibility with other overhaul mods that heavily rewrite these exact same components may vary.
Installation
Via Thunderstore / r2modman (Recommended)
- Install BepInExPack Valheim.
- Click Install with Mod Manager on the TameCraft Thunderstore page.
- Start the game via your mod manager.
Manual Installation
- Ensure BepInExPack Valheim is installed in your Valheim game directory.
- Extract the downloaded
TameCraft.ziparchive. - Copy
TameCraft.dllinto your<Valheim>/BepInEx/plugins/directory (or place theTameCraftfolder underplugins/). - For dedicated servers, copy the same
TameCraft.dllinto the server's<ServerRoot>/BepInEx/plugins/directory. - Launch the game/server to generate
BepInEx/config/com.tamecraft.valheim.cfg.
Troubleshooting
- Log File: Check
<Valheim>/BepInEx/LogOutput.log(or your dedicated server console log) for diagnostics and error reports. - Enable Debug Logging: In
BepInEx/config/com.tamecraft.valheim.cfg, setDebugLogging = trueunder[General]. This outputs detailed telemetry for feeding, affection gains, gestation timers, and growth updates. - Reporting Bugs & Feedback: When submitting an issue, please provide your
LogOutput.log, yourcom.tamecraft.valheim.cfgfile, the creature type, and a list of installed mods. In case of any bug or discussion, feel free to contact me on Discord:momos3939.
