NotHeretic
The Heretic, playable from the very first stage.
Normally you only become the Heretic by collecting all four Heresy items in one run. NotHeretic puts it in the character select grid, so you can start a run as it, gives it a new skill for every slot (including a flock of small Alloy Vultures) and skins of its own.
Everything comes from the base game: the Heretic's own model, animations, skills and lore, plus the Alloy Vulture's windblades and body for the new skills. No extra downloads.
What you get
- The Heretic in character select, with its model in the lobby, a description, a loadout tab and skins.
- All four Heresy skills in its slots, shown in the loadout with their names, icons and descriptions.
- Four new skills, one more choice per slot: Windblades, Gale, Updraft and Call of the Flock.
- Innate Heresy: the Heretic counts as holding one of each Heresy item. Extra copies you find stack as usual. Nothing sits in your inventory, so there's nothing to lose to a Cleansing Pool or to trade away.
- Playable health regen: the vanilla Heretic loses 6 health every second, which is meant for a character you only turn into late in a run. Here it regenerates 1/s by default (configurable).
- Five new skins next to the original look.
Stats
| Health | Regen | Damage | Armor | Speed | Jumps |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 440 (+132 per level) | 1/s (+0.2) | 18 (+3.6) | 0 | 8 | 3 |
Only the regen differs from the vanilla Heretic.
Skills
| Slot | Skill | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | Hungering Gaze | Fire a flurry of tracking shards that detonate after a delay, dealing 120% damage. Holds 12 charges that reload after 2 seconds. |
| Secondary | Slicing Maelstrom (5 s) | Charge up a ball of blades that repeatedly deals 175% damage. After a delay, explode and root all enemies for 700% damage. |
| Utility | Shadowfade (6 s) | Fade away for 3 seconds, becoming intangible and gaining movement speed. Heal for 25% of your maximum health. |
| Special | Ruin (8 s) | Dealing damage adds a stack of Ruin. Activating the skill detonates all Ruin stacks at unlimited range, dealing 300% damage plus 120% per stack. |
Every Heresy item you pick up powers up its skill exactly like it does in vanilla (more shards, longer Shadowfade, and so on). The first copy of each adds nothing, because the Heretic already counts as holding one.
New skills
Pick them in the Loadout tab; the Heresy skills above stay the default.
| Slot | Skill | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | Windblades | Hurl a spread of 3 windblades (the Alloy Vulture's thrown feathers of wind) for 3×120% damage. |
| Secondary | Gale (6 s) | Stunning. Beat your wings to blast a burst of crows and wind in front of you for 500% damage, throwing enemies back. |
| Utility | Updraft (6 s) | Launch yourself where you aim, invulnerable for half a second, then glide down slowly. You can keep attacking in the air. |
| Special | Call of the Flock (20 s) | Call 3 Fledglings, small Alloy Vultures that copy your items and throw windblades at your enemies for 20 seconds. Calling again replaces them. |
Fledglings fly, follow you around and teleport back to you if they fall far behind. They count as allies, like drones.
Skins

- Default: the original Heretic, red cloth and black feathers.
- Void Heretic: violet feathers, black-violet robes, glowing magenta eyes and markings.
- Blazing Heretic: ember-orange feathers, crimson robes, a fiery glow.
- Glacial Heretic: pale ice-blue feathers, navy robes, a cold blue glow.
- Gilded Heretic: golden feathers, dark bronze robes, a warm metallic shine.
- Malachite Heretic: deep green feathers, black-green robes, a toxic green glow.
Your windblades and Fledglings take on the colours of your skin: a Void Heretic throws violet windblades and calls violet Fledglings.
The skins also apply when you turn into the Heretic the vanilla way.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/NotHeretic.cfg
- Health regen (default
1): health regenerated per second at level 1. It grows by 20% of this value every level, like in vanilla. Set it to-6for the vanilla health loss. In multiplayer the host's value counts.
Compatibility
- Turning into the Heretic with the four Heresy items still works. While you hold the items its skills behave exactly like before; the regen setting applies to it too.
- Mithrix, False Son and Providence already have their own lines for the Heretic in the base game.
Multiplayer
Every player needs the mod installed.
