README

Apex Predator Launcher

A separate R.E.P.O. shop weapon that launches an upright Apex Predator duck.

First impact → wait 5 seconds → QUACK → wait 1 second → BOOM.

Features

  • One upright duck per shot, using the game's calm duck appearance and normal quack.
  • Ducks keep their feet down in flight and after landing. Later bounces do not restart the countdown.
  • An original graphite launcher barrel with yellow safety bands and hazard markings.
  • 1,000 shots per full charge: 200 shots for each of the five native battery bars.
  • An exact DUCKS / 1000 ammo counter while you hold the launcher.
  • Native weapon handling, recoil, recharging and grenade blast effects.
  • A distinct shop item; ordinary shotguns, grenades and enemy ducks remain separate.

The duck is an explosive projectile with no enemy AI. Its normal grenade blast can damage players and valuables.

Install and play

  1. Install ApexPredatorLauncher through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman, including its BepInExPack dependency.
  2. Start R.E.P.O. using Start modded.
  3. Find Apex Predator Launcher in randomized shop stock and purchase it. It uses the native shotgun's price range by default, with normal shop multipliers and item limits.
  4. Pick it up, aim, and use the normal weapon firing controls.

For a manual installation, install BepInExPack first, then copy this archive's BepInEx/plugins/ApexPredatorLauncher folder into your mod profile's BepInEx/plugins folder. Keep only one installed copy of the mod DLL. Restart the game after installing or updating.

For co-op, every player must install the same version. Multiplayer behavior has not yet been verified in a live co-op session.

Ammo and recharging

A full five-bar charge supplies 1,000 shots. The native display loses one bar every 200 shots, while the held ammo counter includes shots used within the current bar. Partial-bar usage is tracked in normal saved-run data.

Charging works in whole native battery bars. While all five bars are still showing, use a full bar before topping up at a charger. A recharge that restores a bar also refills any partially used rounds. Shop firing retains the game's free test-fire behavior. Existing launchers keep their battery charge when updated and receive the larger capacity for that charge.

Configuration

After the first modded launch, settings are in BepInEx/config/caspi.apexpredatorlauncher.cfg:

  • Shop / BasePrice: 0 keeps the native shotgun price range. A positive number sets a base price; the game applies its multiplier and rounds to $1,000 steps. Restart after changing this setting.
  • Launcher / LaunchSpeed: projectile launch speed; default 18. The host's setting controls network shots.

Timing is fixed at five seconds after first impact before the quack, then one second before the explosion. It uses game time, so pausing pauses the countdown. Fired ducks cannot be picked up or disarmed. They ignore collisions with their firing launcher and shooter, but their explosions still deal normal damage. A duck that never hits anything is removed after 90 seconds without exploding.

Alpha status

Version 0.1.2, built against R.E.P.O. v0.4.4.3. The upright duck and 5+1 second sequence have player confirmation. Compilation and the release DLL's 1,000-shot counter arithmetic passed checks; 1,000 live shots were not tested. Live checks of the new ammo HUD, charging, save/load, level transitions and co-op remain pending. See TESTING.md for details.

Other mods that change weapon firing, grenades, physics, or item registration may require compatibility work.

Game meshes, materials and audio are loaded from your installed game at runtime and are not included in this package. The mod code, original procedural launcher appearance and illustrated package icon were created with AI assistance. The icon is an illustration, not an in-game screenshot.
