README

Rider

Ride tamed boars, wolves and deer with a craftable saddle, smooth mounted camera, controller-friendly movement, mounted jumping, and up to three mounted attacks.

Saddle recipe

Craft a Saddle at a Level 2 Workbench:

  • 5 Leather Scraps
  • 2 Deer Hide
  • 4 Bronze Nails

Equip the saddle to your hotbar and use it on a tamed boar, wolf or deer. Deer require a separate taming mod.

Controls

Action Keyboard / Mouse Xbox controller (Classic layout)
Move / steer Hold W, steer with camera or A/D Left stick
Walk W without Run Light or medium left-stick input
Run Game's Run key Game's Run input
Stop Release W or press S Release stick or pull backward
Mounted jump Space / game's Jump input B / game's Jump input

Remove saddle Shift + E at the saddle Game's alternate-use input

Attack buttons follow your in-game bindings. Available attacks depend on the creature; no additional attacks are created. Some controls can differ if you remap the game inputs.

Mounted jumping

Jump uses the game's normal Jump binding and keeps you mounted. The default cost is 4% of maximum mount stamina, reduced by riding skill to 2% at skill 100. The mount must be grounded and able to act; rejected jumps do not dismount the rider. A creature with a stronger native jump keeps it.

This update enables jumping and applies the PackBeasts jump defaults once. Later changes to the existing jump settings remain supported. Multiplayer registration also retries when a mount's network object is not ready immediately.

Mounted sliding threshold

Version 1.0.3 is based directly on 1.0.1 and sets the sliding threshold to 60 degrees while riding a Rider mount. Players, unridden animals and other mods' saddles retain their existing thresholds.

This trial uses the game's existing ground-angle calculation and does not include the 1.0.2 normal correction. The 60-degree limit applies to the angle calculated by the game. No configuration reset is required.

Seat fit and wolf speed

Version 1.0.5 moves boar and deer seats back by 0.10 model metres relative to 1.0.4, using a local offset of -0.04 from the native saddle anchor. Seat height is unchanged. The position is cached once and follows the saddle during movement. The existing wolf seat, riding poses, handle/collar and camera settings are retained.

The wolf's base mounted running speed is now 8 m/s at Riding skill 0, reaching 10 m/s at skill 100 with the normal 25% riding bonus. Boar and deer speeds are unchanged. The update applies the wolf speed to existing configurations once, including the previous 7.5 setting; later administrator changes remain supported. Unridden wolves keep their native movement.

Installation

Requires BepInExPack Valheim and Jotunn (see manifest.json). Install the full package on the host/server and on every player in multiplayer. Remove previous RideableTames/Fai versions before installing; do not use alongside PackBeasts or Rideable Boars.

The game's original saddle item, recipe and configuration identity are retained for compatibility with existing worlds. Walking sensitivity is configurable under BepInEx/config/fai.rideabletames.controls.cfg (Movement / AnalogWalkThreshold, default 0.80).
