README

Wolfborn

This mod creates a new rare category of alpha wolves in any Mountain biome in your world: the Wolfborns. Once tamed, they will feature a new gradual enhancement system as they accompany you on your adventures in Valheim!

Banner Principal

Note: The purpose of this mod is to be as "vanilla-friendly" as possible and as integrated and organic to Valheim's original atmosphere as it can be. Have fun!

Description

Wolfborns are tamer alpha wolves that carry a lot of personality and acquire protection from a solar spectrum in their essence when they feel bonded to a warrior companion. They can spawn in any Mountain biome of your world along with other wild wolves, appearing in White, Gray, or Black fur. You will easily recognize them in a pack if you have the chance to encounter them.

Still holding the ancestral blood of a good companion for a warrior, they will not abandon you if they are properly tamed and trained as they adventure in Valheim with you. They will become part of your family when tamed, and you will see them grow imposing enough to strike fear into enemies as they increase in physical size and gain experience exploring and helping you on your adventures.

A supernatural capacity of protection from a solar spectrum makes them able to answer your call whenever you summon them through a Wolfborn Totem. They also will not die due to having this gift (unless you want to sacrifice them), being protected by having great bravery and loyalty to you and remaining eternally faithful as the duty of an implacable wolf!

Features

New category of wolves (Wolfborns) with a new fur color in addition to the game's default fur color:

  • Adds a new category of wolves to tame which will spawn by default in any Mountain biome.
  • The spawn chance of a Wolfborn will work as follows: Whenever a wolf spawns in the biome, the game will roll to determine if it will be a Wolfborn. Based on only a 20% spawn chance, besides making this roll, the mod will also respect whether the Wolfborn spawns with stars or not.
  • The chances of a Wolfborn spawning with stars will work as follows: A zero-star wolf in Valheim has an 89% default chance of spawning near a player => within this spawn, there is a 20% chance it will be a zero-star Wolfborn. A 1-star wolf in Valheim has a 10% default chance of spawning near a player => within this spawn, there is a 20% chance it will be a 1-star Wolfborn. A 2-star wolf in Valheim has a 1% default chance of spawning near a player => within this spawn, there is a 20% chance it will be a 2-star Wolfborn.
  • Following all the spawn chances above, the Wolfborn will still have a chance to spawn in the following fur colors: White (game default - for any star Wolfborn's), Gray (mod variant color - for 1-star Wolfborn's), and Black (mod variant color - for 2-star Wolfborns).

Keep looking for your perfect Wolfborn and eventually it will answer your call, but know that it won't be that easy!

Note: these spawns also work for already created worlds, as long as the mod is correctly installed (see installation description below)!

Level System with Custom Hover

  • Adds a Level system to tamed Wolfborns (Level 1 to 10), allowing them to increase their XP points to gain HP and Bonus Damage as they advance in levels. These attributes can be tracked through a custom Valheim-style hover when aiming at your Wolfborns.

Wolfborn Hover

Hover

XP System

  • Creates a passive XP points counter based on the distance the Wolfborn walks alongside the player: 2 points for every 25 meters (the "Stay" function does not grant passive XP points).
  • Creates an active XP points counter based on the last hit it deals to an enemy: 15 points upon executing enemies (if the Wolfborn does not land the last hit, these points do not count).

New fur color beyond the game's default color

  • Adds a new fur color variant in addition to Valheim's default wolf color (applies only to Wolfborns), where they can have a chance to spawn as: White (Valheim's default color), Dark Gray (variant color), or Black (near-black color, mod variant).

Note: Due to Valheim's configuration standard, the more stars a wolf has, the slightly darker and more distinct its fur is. Therefore, in the mod's color variants (both default and variants), this specialty is also included, making Wolfborns with more stars have slightly darker fur compared to Wolfborns with fewer stars.

No Stars - Valheim's Default Color / Variant Color

1 Star - Valheim's Default Color / Variant Color

2 Stars - Valheim's Default Color / Variant Color

Gradual size in tamed Wolfborns

  • Addition of a physical size increase system for Wolfborns starting from the moment they are tamed, with this physical size being scaled from the default size of Valheim wolves (increasing gradually until reaching Level 10): Level 1 (default Valheim wolf size) => gradual size increase at each level => Level 10 (maximum size, reaching up to the character's head).

Note: The Wolfborn's size is also based on the number of stars it possesses when spawning in the world and scales as explained previously, therefore the initial default size (Level 1) follows these scales: zero-star wolves (small - scale 1.0) => 1-star wolves (medium - scale 1.15) => 2-star wolves (large - scale 1.30).

Teleportation

  • Adds the ability for one or more of your tamed Wolfborns to teleport through a new item added to the game: the Wolfborn Totem. By building and interacting with this totem, all your Wolfborns that are on "Follow" status will be teleported to the Wolfborn Totem where you activated it.

Note: Wolfborns that are already close to a Wolfborn Totem or that are on "Stay" status will not be teleported, as they must be within a certain distance of a Wolfborn Totem and on "Follow" status with the player for this to happen!

Stunning and Sacrifice

  • A stunning system has been included for tamed Wolfborns. Whenever defeated by any natural damage in the game (fatal blow, fire, poison, etc.), two protective solar spheres will appear and protect your Wolfborn. Therefore, a Wolfborn reaching 0 HP will only be stunned for 60 seconds and will wake up with 20% HP as soon as this time ends.
  • There is only a single way to sacrifice and delete a Wolfborn from the world for whatever reasons the player may have (possible bugs, shrinking the pack, etc.): by using the Butcher's Knife on it (a native game item).

Note: Wolfborns deleted with the Butcher's Knife will have all their progress lost and can no longer be brought back to life! Therefore, take into consideration the possibility that another player might sacrifice your Wolfborn without your permission.

Looks like a bug, but it's not ⚡🤖

  • When entering dungeons while your Wolfborn is following you, upon exiting and returning to the open world, you will need to wait a few seconds and walk around the dungeon entrance for your Wolfborn to load back into the world and resume following you. This happens because Valheim takes a few seconds of processing time to restore features and entities that were active before you entered dungeons.

Installation

  • Thunderstore / r2modman / others: Using your preferred mod manager, install Wolfborn by searching for it in the search box and make sure it is this exact version (created by LoupWave);

  • Manual installation: Extract the .zip files and place the .dll file into the game folders like this: <PathToYourSteamLibary>\steamapps\common\Valheim\plugins\Wolfborn (by LoupWave).dll;

  • Servers: In any Multiplayer mode (Dedicated or Client Server), all players in the session must have the same .dll file in their respective Valheim folders for all Wolfborn features to be synchronized and compatible. It can be installed via managers or manually following the steps explained previously.

Feel free to support me!

This is my first time developing a game mod, and I had a great time acquiring new knowledge in the world of programming and design. Developing and producing Wolfborn cost me time and a lot of dedication, and it will be continued whenever possible, providing new experiences for Valheim players and giving me even more pleasure in creating new things (every idea that becomes possible to implement is a very satisfying achievement for me), though this will cost me even more time to invest.

Therefore, any support is very welcome and will make me even more involved in this project envisioned by me for the community, where all ideas were and will be carefully thought out and crafted with the maximum testing and organization that I can manage.

Thank you in advance for your support, and I hope this mod brings you many great gameplay moments!
