README

Trail of the Fallen Lords

A guided adventure for the BiomeLords mod — made for solo and small local games.

BiomeLords adds a mighty "Lord" boss to every biome, each with a blessing and a special power waiting for whoever can bring it down. This add-on gives you an in-game guide that walks you through the whole journey: where to look, what to hunt, how to claim each reward, and — most importantly — how the world quietly grows stronger every time you win.

No menus to read, no wiki to study. The guide simply appears as you play.

What you need

This is a guide pack, not a mod on its own. You need these two mods installed (the mod manager will offer to add them for you when you install this):

  1. Valheim ServerGuide — the engine that shows the quests, tips, and conversations.
  2. BiomeLords — the mod that actually adds the Lords this guide is about.

Using a mod manager (Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman) is the easy way — it installs everything in the right place automatically. See Installing below.

What the guide does for you

  • Find every Lord. When you step into a new biome, a raven whispers what stirs there, how many of the local beasts to hunt, and what to do next.
  • Summon and defeat them. Clear, step-by-step nudges from first hunt to final blow.
  • Claim your rewards. Plain explanations of each Lord's Blessing (mounted on the Hall of the Lords) and its Forsaken Power — what each does and when it shines.
  • Understand the world's growth. A running set of lore pages, "The Law of Tiers," teaches you the single most important thing about BiomeLords: every Lord you defeat makes the remaining Lords — and the old bosses like Eikthyr and Bonemass — stronger. Learn it, and you can plan your climb instead of being caught off guard.
  • Meet three guides. Three wandering traders act as Lore-keepers. Talk to them (hold the use key) to ask about the Lords and the Law of Tiers. Each one points you toward the next when you're ready — but you'll have to find the next one yourself. Reach them, and you'll be rewarded for the search.

How to play

Once it's installed, just play. The guide reacts to what you do.

  • Quests appear on their own as you enter biomes and fight.
  • Press F3 to open the Codex — a little book of every tip and lore page you've unlocked, sorted by Lord.
  • In the Codex, click "Show on Tracker" on a quest to pin it to your screen. Press F10 to show or hide that on-screen tracker. (It starts hidden until you pin something.)
  • Hold the use key (E by default) on a trader — Haldor, Hildir, or the Bog Witch — to open a conversation and ask about the Lords. Tap the use key instead to trade as normal.

That's it. Follow the ravens and the runes, and they'll lead you down the whole Trail.

A note for solo players

This edition is tuned for playing on your own (or with a friend or two on a local game). It leaves out the server-only extras — there are no Discord announcements and no "first on the server" messages. Everything is about your journey and your world.

If you run a dedicated server for a community, look for the server edition instead, which adds those shared-celebration features.

Installing

The easy way (recommended):

  1. Install Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman.
  2. Search for Trail of the Fallen Lords and click Install.
  3. Accept the two required mods when prompted (ServerGuide and BiomeLords).
  4. Launch the game through the manager. Done — start a world and play.

By hand (if you don't use a manager):

  1. Make sure Valheim ServerGuide and BiomeLords are already installed.
  2. Open this download. Inside is a folder: config\ValheimServerGuide\.
  3. Copy the .yaml files from there into your game's BepInEx\config\ValheimServerGuide\ folder (create it if it isn't there yet).
  4. Launch the game. The quests load automatically.

Frequently asked

Do I have to set anything up? No. Install it and play.

Will it change my game balance? No. The guide never spawns enemies or hands out gear. The only gifts it gives are a few coins and a short Rested buff when you track down the two hidden Lore-keepers — a small thank-you for exploring. All the real rewards (trophies, blessings, powers) come from BiomeLords itself, exactly as that mod intends.

Can I add it to a game already in progress? Yes. Quests you've "already done" simply won't pop up again for things you've passed, but everything ahead of you still works.

It's not showing anything! Make sure both required mods are installed and that you're actually in the matching biome / fighting the matching creatures. Open the Codex (F3) to see what you've unlocked so far.
