README

ValheimCraftingCompatibility

Publisher: Valyn_Mods
Package version: 1.0.1 — documentation and packaging update; plugin DLL remains 1.0.0.
Status: Experimental — fixture tests passed; in-game verification pending.

An independent BepInEx compatibility patch for VikingCraftingAndQuickDeposit and WorkshopWorker. It addresses overlapping crafting and manual storage-input hooks that can cause double resource consumption or stalled crafting with both mods active. VikingCrafting handles recipe costs and manual storage pulls while WorkshopWorker retains its interface, linked automation, hotbar and unrelated hooks. Neither author's DLL or configuration is rewritten.

Published Thunderstore package.

Install with r2modman or Thunderstore Mod Manager

  1. Close Valheim and open the Valheim profile you use in your manager.
  2. Open the Online mod list, search for ValheimCraftingCompatibility, and select the package published by Valyn_Mods. Install it with dependencies. Alternatively, use Install with App on the Thunderstore package page.
  3. Confirm the requirements below are installed and enabled. Remove earlier manually copied or local-imported patch DLLs so only one copy is loaded.
  4. Launch using the manager's modded launch option.
  5. Check the active profile's BepInEx/LogOutput.log for WorkshopWorker's normal loaded message and COMPAT ACTIVE.

The published package supports normal manager installation and update checks. Import local mod is not needed for installation from the Online list. The manager controls the install folder, normally BepInEx/plugins/Valyn_Mods-ValheimCraftingCompatibility.

Requirements

Package 1.0.1 declares these Thunderstore dependencies:

Package Required version
BepInExPack_Valheim — denikson 5.4.2350 (BepInEx 5.4.23.5)
VikingCraftingAndQuickDeposit — JacobsValheim 0.0.5
WorkshopWorker — Daxtillion 1.0.5

Both author DLLs must match the exact versions and SHA-256 hashes in source/supported-builds.json in the downloaded archive. The corresponding Thunderstore author releases were downloaded and matched against those hashes for this package update. Changed builds are rejected even if their version numbers are unchanged. Confirm the versions in an existing profile; newer builds need review rather than bypassing the guards.

The original mods and BepInEx are dependencies, not bundled DLLs. Manual installers obtain them separately. Install the patch on clients where both mods run, and follow each original author's server/client installation requirements for that mod. The reported development game setup was Valheim 1.0.17; that does not establish in-game verification of this patch.

Manual installation from Thunderstore or Nexus Mods

  1. Close Valheim and install the requirements above.

  2. Download the patch ZIP from its published listing and extract it temporarily.

  3. Create BepInEx/plugins/ValheimCraftingCompatibility in the game installation or profile you actually launch. Copy plugins/ValheimCraftingCompatibility.dll from the archive into that folder.

  4. The installed DLL path should be:

    BepInEx/plugins/ValheimCraftingCompatibility/ValheimCraftingCompatibility.dll

  5. Optionally keep README.md and ABOUT.md alongside it. Keep the full download for its source, tests and maintenance guide.

  6. Launch with BepInEx enabled and check the startup status below.

Install one copy of each plugin and keep backup DLLs outside BepInEx/plugins. Copy the DLL as described rather than the whole extracted archive. Manual installations require manual patch updates.

Migrating from earlier installs

LocalPatch/local imports: Close Valheim, uninstall the old local patch entry, and remove any manually copied compatibility DLL. Install the Valyn_Mods package from the Online list. Keep the original author mods installed. An entry using a different author name can remain separately; check that it is removed.

V1/V2 author-DLL patches: Restore both original author builds from their respective downloads and remove patched/duplicate copies before using this separate plugin. Crafting working while WorkshopWorker failed to initialize does not establish compatibility between both running mods.

Published 1.0.0: Update the Valyn_Mods package through the manager to 1.0.1. This update corrects documentation and declares dependencies. The DLL and crafting code are unchanged.

Startup status

WorkshopWorker should log its normal loaded message, its interface should be present, and the patch should report COMPAT ACTIVE.

Log message Meaning and action
COMPAT ACTIVE Supported builds passed the guards and overlapping WorkshopWorker hooks were removed. Verify gameplay below.
COMPAT STANDBY One required author mod is absent; no compatibility changes were made.
COMPAT NOT APPLIED A build/runtime check or patch operation failed. Read the reason. Disable WorkshopWorker's [Crafting] Enabled setting or disable one mod before crafting with both.

The failure warning does not automatically disable either author's crafting. The original conflict may remain when the fix is inactive. Restart after changing loaded mods. If a hook edit fails, the patch attempts to restore removed registrations.

While both mods are loaded, VikingCrafting controls chest-crafting and manual-refill settings. Disabling one of its features does not automatically switch ownership back to WorkshopWorker. With either mod absent, the patch makes no hook changes.

Gameplay checks and troubleshooting

In-game verification is still pending. Back up the profile/save and check:

  • Both mods initialize, COMPAT ACTIVE appears, and WorkshopWorker controls remain.
  • Linked storage feeds machines through WorkshopWorker automation.
  • One craft produces the expected item for one recipe cost with carried, chest-only and split ingredients.
  • Upgrades and multiple crafts charge correctly. Exact-stock and insufficient-stock cases stop correctly, and cancellation ends the crafting task.
  • Manual machine inputs and unrelated WorkshopWorker controls still work.

Missing WorkshopWorker interface or an invalid-type AddComponent warning: Confirm its original DLL is installed once, its loaded message appears, and older patched copies have been removed.

COMPAT NOT APPLIED: Read the logged reason. Unknown builds need review; do not change a hash simply to bypass the guard. Disable WorkshopWorker crafting or one mod while the combination is unverified.

Double consumption, free crafting or a loop: Stop using the affected combination. Check startup status, duplicates and the active profile. Contact Valyn_Mods using support/contact information on the package listing, or report the issue on this patch's Nexus Mods page for Nexus installs. Include:

  • The full current LogOutput.log and game/BepInEx/mod versions.
  • Exact reproduction steps, including crafting, upgrading or multiple crafts.
  • Ingredient locations/counts before and after, plus whether WorkshopWorker's interface and automation worked.

Updates and removal

Use the manager to check for published Valyn_Mods package updates. Author updates cannot overwrite this separate plugin, but new builds require hook review, supported-build/source updates, rebuilding and testing. See source/UPDATING.md in the downloaded archive. Game, BepInEx and other-mod updates also require repeating the checks. COMPAT ACTIVE confirms the guard checks; it does not prove every gameplay interaction has been tested.

To remove the patch, close Valheim and uninstall its manager entry or remove the manual DLL. Remove separate manual copies too. Keep the original author mods, but disable WorkshopWorker crafting or one mod before using both without the fix.

Package contents and verification

Archive path Purpose

README.md, ABOUT.md, CHANGELOG.md Installation, scope, credits and release notes
manifest.json, icon.png Thunderstore metadata and icon
source/ Source, build project, supported builds/methods and update guide
verification/ Fixture tests and recorded results

Tests passed in Mono with actual HarmonyX 2.9 and fixture BepInEx/game services. Scenarios cover the supported pair, an absent mod, unknown version, changed hash, uninitialized mod, active scope, missing hook and rollback after a patch rebuild error. All 14 expected patch-method signatures were checked against the original WorkshopWorker DLL. These tests did not run Valheim or Unity.

See verification/README.txt and verification/runtime-verification.json in the archive. This packaging update adds no new gameplay verification.
