Graphics Overdrive: DLSS Add-on
An optional add-on for Graphics Overdrive. It adds DLSS to Graphics Overdrive's scaler menu on GeForce RTX cards:
- DLSS Super Resolution: the game renders at a lower resolution and DLSS rebuilds a sharp image at your screen resolution. Modes: Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance.
- DLAA: DLSS anti-aliasing at full resolution, for the best image when you have performance to spare.
- DLSS Frame Generation (RTX 40 series and newer): an extra generated frame between two rendered ones.
The add-on contains NVIDIA's DLSS runtime and the small bridge that connects it to Graphics Overdrive. Graphics Overdrive itself stays the same mod. Without this add-on it offers AMD FSR 3 only.
🐧 Developed and Tested on Linux
All development and testing of this add-on was done on Linux: the native Linux version of Valheim on Vulkan, with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (laptop GPU).
Windows: the Windows library is built from the same code and included. Version 1.0.0 crashed the game at startup on Windows with
-force-vulkan; 1.0.1 fixes that crash. With Graphics Overdrive 1.0.2, a Windows tester has confirmed DLSS Super Resolution on a GeForce RTX 5070 laptop GPU, but Windows has not been through the same testing as Linux. If DLSS does not show up in the menus or misbehaves on Windows, please report it withBepInEx/LogOutput.log.
Requirements
- An NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card (RTX 20 series or newer; Frame Generation needs RTX 40 series or newer) and a current NVIDIA driver.
- Graphics Overdrive 1.0.2 or newer, with its Native Door on. It is on by default; if you switched it off, switch it back on in Settings > Graphics > Native Door and restart the game.
- Valheim running on Vulkan:
- Linux: the game already uses Vulkan.
- Windows: add
-force-vulkanto Valheim's launch options (Steam: right-click Valheim > Properties > Launch Options).
Install
- Mod manager (Gale): install this package. Graphics Overdrive comes with it as a dependency.
- By hand: copy the
patchersfolder of this package toBepInEx/patchers/GraphicsOverdrive_DLSS/, so that the files end up inBepInEx/patchers/GraphicsOverdrive_DLSS/native/.
Start the game. Settings > Graphics > Scaler now lists DLSS. The Frame Generation row lists DLSS on RTX 40 series cards and newer.
Use
- Scaler: DLSS, then pick a mode. DLAA gives the best image, Ultra Performance the most frames.
- DLSS Model chooses which of NVIDIA's DLSS models is used. "Auto" lets DLSS decide.
- Output Scale above 100% renders past your screen resolution and scales down, for extra sharpness.
- Frame Generation: DLSS adds one generated frame per rendered frame.
The same controls are in the F11 overlay (Scaling tab). Graphics Overdrive shows what is running and why an option is missing. Its log lines start with [Native], [Upscaler] and [DLSS add-on] in BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
Privacy
The add-on sends nothing anywhere. When DLSS starts, NVIDIA's NGX runtime (part of your NVIDIA driver) may start NVIDIA's own updater, which can download newer DLSS files from NVIDIA. That is NVIDIA's driver behaviour, the same as in any game with DLSS.
Uninstall
Remove the package in your mod manager, or delete BepInEx/patchers/GraphicsOverdrive_DLSS/. Graphics Overdrive then goes back to Vanilla / FSR 3 on its own.
Size
About 130 MB unpacked (a 70 MB download), almost all of it NVIDIA's DLSS runtime for Linux and Windows.
