G2 - Companion Mods
Updated 2 weeks agoCompanion Mods
Reference · for creators. Stitchwork doesn't try to be the whole toolbox. Some jobs are better served by tools that already exist — this page is the short list of mods and programs we know work well alongside Stitchwork, and what each one is good for.
Stitchwork's design principle is to change what the game shows, not how it runs — so anything that helps you control the game's state while you work composes naturally with it. These are the companions we've tested against or built around. The list will grow.
DebugMod
The community's Swiss-army debugging mod, and the single most useful companion for creators. Two features earn it a place in your load order:
- Save states. Snapshot the game at a moment, return to it instantly, as many times as you want. Essential for testing replacements that only trigger once — first-meeting dialogue, one-shot cutscene audio, a boss's intro. The full walkthrough is Testing With Savestates.
- Global time-scale pause. Freeze or slow the whole game while Stitchwork's tools stay live. A busy scene with effects too fast to catch? Freeze time mid-attack, then use World Pick or the T2D browser to grab the exact sprite on screen at leisure. This turns "impossible to pick" targets into sitting ducks.
Stitchwork and DebugMod are tested side by side; the cursor and keybind handling are built to compose (we deliberately mirror its cursor behavior so neither mod fights the other).
Custom Knight Creator (CKC)
A standalone skin-creation program — born for the original Hollow Knight, ported to work with Silksong assets. It covers much of the same ground as Stitchwork's graphics workflows, but from outside the game: you see each animation's specific sprites, preview the animation, and check that frames flow smoothly before exporting.
Stitchwork is not a replacement for CKC, and doesn't want to be. If
CKC is your comfortable home, keep making skins there — the
Spritesheets/ tier loads CKC output as-is, and Stitchwork's individual
files can layer fixes on top of a CKC port without re-exporting. The
full porting story: Porting Prior Work.
