Chest Snapping

Switch: F1 → 0 - Sub-mods → Chest Snapping (on by default).

In the game chests, rugs and fermenters have no snap points: lining up a row of chests, laying rugs side by side or putting a chest neatly on a floor tile is guesswork, and the game's manual snap keys (Q / E) do nothing while you place one. Chest Snapping fixes that.

Features

  • Every chest gets snap points on the eight corners of its box, the middle of each bottom edge and the middle of its top and bottom.
  • A chest snaps flush next to, on top of or below another chest, like walls snap to walls; two chests of different sizes line up centred.
  • Floor tiles, by where you aim: the tile under the crosshair is split into 3 x 3 zones. Aim near one of its corners and the piece goes into that corner (lying over the tile from there); near the middle of an edge and it lies flush with that edge, centred along it (a wardrobe against the wall side of a tile); in the middle and it is centred on the tile (a fermenter). It never hangs over onto the next tile. Floors of any size, and other flat pieces like tables. The floors themselves are not changed: they snap to each other exactly as before.
  • Q / E while placing pick a point of the piece you hold (the game shows its name, e.g. "Chest bottom front left"); it then snaps onto the nearest corner, edge middle or middle of a tile, or of a chest. Again past the last one: back to automatic ("Auto"), which uses the aim zones.
  • Works for every chest: wood, reinforced, personal, black metal and Grausten chests, barrels, the wardrobe, and chests from other mods (anything with storage that has no snap points of its own).
  • Rugs (the game's and Nordic Rugs', not the wall versions) and fermenters too, with points on their corners, the middle of each edge and the middle: rugs lie flush side by side, fermenters stand side by side, and both snap onto floor tiles (e.g. a fermenter right in the middle of a tile). Each kind snaps to its own kind.

Details

  • By default each kind snaps to its own kind and to floor tiles only, and walls or floors never snap onto them, so a chest near a wall stays where you aim. Snap to other pieces lets them snap to any piece's snap points too.
  • The points are sized from each piece's real edges: the Grausten chest and the wardrobe from their models (their colliders are smaller), Nordic rugs from their woven area (not the see-through border of their picture, so the tassels hang over the line like a real rug's).
  • On a tile edge a piece reaches 2 cm past the line, so the floor's planks (which stick out about a centimetre) do not show as a thin line along it.
  • Chests you already placed get the points too (no rebuilding needed). Switched off, they are gone again.

Notes

  • Client-side. The chests are normal chests: other players see them as usual, with or without the mod.

Settings (F1)

In F1 these are under Chest Snapping - ..., below the switches.

Chest Snapping

Setting Default What it does
Snap to other pieces off Chests, rugs and fermenters also snap to the snap points of walls, beams and other pieces, and those to them. Off: each snaps to its own kind and to floor tiles only, so a chest near a wall stays where you aim.
Snap to floor tiles on Chests, rugs and fermenters snap onto floor tiles (and other flat pieces, like tables): flush with a tile's edge and centred along it, or right in the middle of the tile, so they do not hang over onto the next tile. The floors themselves snap as before.
Rugs on Rugs (the game's and Nordic Rugs', not the wall versions) get snap points too: flush side by side, and onto floor tiles.
Fermenters on Fermenters get snap points too: flush side by side, and onto floor tiles (in the middle of a tile).
