Wisplings is built for playing together, whether someone hosts from their game or you run a dedicated server.

Everyone needs it

Every player needs Wisplings, and so does the host or dedicated server. Versions have to match on the first two numbers: 1.1.0 and 1.1.2 can play together, 1.0.1 and 1.1.2 can't. Jötunn will tell you if there's a mismatch when you join.

Who controls what

  • Gameplay settings come from the host or server. Ranges, costs, which wisps are switched on, Anchor rules: whatever is in the host's config is what everyone plays with.
  • The one exception is [Crafting] Station, MinStationLevel and AnchorStation. Every player needs the same values in their own file.
  • Sound, glow and colour are yours. Each player sets those for themselves.

On a dedicated server, edit the server's config file. Admins can also change server settings in-game with a config manager mod.

What you'll notice playing together

  • Everyone sees everyone's wisps.
  • A wisp never touches a chest another player has open.
  • Base wisps work with chests, fires, smelters and tames no matter whose game is looking after them.
  • The Balm Wisp at level 3 heals other players near you. Two Balms don't stack on one person.
  • The Mariner's light is seen by everyone on the ship.
  • An Anchor keeps working as long as someone is nearby, even if the player who set it up has left.
  • A Bastion keeps monsters out for everyone, not just its owner.
  • The Sentinel's warning about shots from behind only sees projectiles your own game is running, so it can miss some when another player's game is handling that area.
